the other day i was speaking to one of the guys in parts at work and he told me that a guy in another nearby renault garage has a trophy, and has just found out his gas n/s/f shock has started leaking!!!!!

anyways he got on to warranty and they said they will not cover it, genral wear and tear, so he was obviously not happy. To wind him up even more he got a shock priced up, and the total cost for one single shocker was......... wait for it........... a wopping £1200, what a bummer!!!!!

They can be rebuilt by a specalist for much less £££££

I know if i bought a Trophy i would have the front wheels off checking the pins aint been drilled out and the settings played with.......... Lots of the trophy chaps have been playing with the settings etc

Think this was discussed when they first came out. Car was sold at a loss pretty much due to the suspension set-up.

nah not heard anything about his leaking will ask tomorro, corsa will be up for sale next month, would love to stick a let in there but cant afford it :(

The suspension is one of the main things that potential owners must check properly when buying one, my mate has one too, he's a bit of an anorak ;)

you wrote this thread thinking trophy owners aren't aware of this? lol!

as has been said a specialist can rebuild for a couple of hundred each!

But you have to be very very unlucky to get a problem with them....only 1 owner out of hundreds on the trophy forum has had a problem...in 3 years...pretty good i think....and renault covered part of the rebuild cost too.

I think all Trophy owners are aware of the cost, including myself, they can be sent away and repaired for alot cheaper than getting a new one. Also i think the £1200 you mention is a bit over the top, as it would be if quoted by renault stealers, i think i read somewhere you can but the full set for about £2500.

2500 is still a total rip off.

Yes it is a rip off but have you ever drove a Trophy?
If you have you would understand what they are all about, if you havent then find someone with one and have a go.:)
I was very supprised how well it went around corners compared to my old FF182. But yes as you said it is a total rip off, as already said its much cheaper to send them away and get repaired.

Thanks for reminding us about this again, much appreciated.

At least i now know i can go at least another week without reading exactly the same rubbish the the next "Trophy dampers expensive shocker" thread.

My view is that you get what you pay for. Looking at purchasing a trophy now and not gonna let this worry me. I think :S

sachs are the daddy's, bloody expensive stuff, the trophy dampers are infact some of the cheapest stuff they do!

Another couple of points for a Trophy, In a few years time a Trophy in a small front end accident which damages both front struts wll be wrote off as opposed to a standard/cup 182 purerly on the sachs cost, and how long until 3rd and 4th owners of a Trophy put ordinary struts on it for cost cutting when ths Sachs fail.. I fear the best thing about the Trophy now will be its achilles heel in the not to distant future. Anyone agree with this including Trophy owners.

i know of a trophy that was in a bump and the insurance repaired it, but they didn't realise the cost of the suspension, it should've been written off (had new suspension all round)
