Promenade Stages 2018

074AE909-2FF0-4C1D-814B-8EAEAE5CD884.jpeg

Friday night went well. I was a little cautious on ss1 having never been there before.
Ss2 was a lot better and got 29th fastest stage time out of 94.
That left us 38th over night so we got reseeded to 37th on the road.

Saturday morning went great setting good times in the horrible conditions. The Michelin wets came into there own and it was like driving on dry tarmac.

We got up to 29th overall and 2nd fastest fwd in the class behind a escort maxi kit car.

Ss8 all going fine and coming out of a hairpin in 2nd I lost all drive and had to retire. Looking at the final results I would of ended up around 25th overall if I kept to the pace I was at

On further inspection something inside the box has blown and caused a small hole in the casing near the gear linkage.

The gearbox is coming off today to inspect but I’m not happy as the box had just been rebuilt with the new diff and final drive costing £2000. I only got 25 stage miles out of it.

My brother had issues with the engine breathing badly on ss1. Then on ss2 it blew the dipstick out. Managed to fix it for Saturday with different cam covers. But then on ss8 the same has me he cracked his gearbox casing.

I’ve got plenty of videos I’ll be uploading to YouTube when I’ve got a couple of hours to get them off the sd card

Sorry that things didn't work out for you Nath, and that I didn't get to come and say hello. Didn't even get to see you out on the stages, as we suffered a few silly little problems throughout the day. Sounds like you were going really well though!

I did walk past a couple of times but didn’t know which one of his service crew you were. Funny enough he borrowed my cousins seats for the event.

I’m quite happy that the little Clio was putting in better times than him on the Saturday, but now I have seen on Facebook he’s after more power now ?

And yeah I’m gutted about the box. The circlip has failed taking the box with it

Ah, you should have come and said hello. I was the one with the beard lol

Yeah looks like you were going really well. Mat isn't super confident in the wet and hasn't really driven the car since last year, so probably not at his best. I think the width of the car can be a bit of a hindrance at times too. Yeah he has been talking about an engine upgrade. Worrying really, a forged, high comp RS2000 engine probably doesn't make much more than a Clio engine with cams and bodies. Shows how much times have changed I guess.

That's a real shame. The car definitely looks to have decent pace and you looked to be driving well from the little I did see. A lot of the Clios seemed to suffer problems unfortunately. Was Willett the only one to finish?

Yeah they’re a big wide car. Especially with all the curbs. I almost hit a few on the inside rear on the tight bits.
Pete Walton’s was flying though.

The car seamed to go pretty well really. Quite nimble though the tight stuff but still have a bit of pace on the long straights. Already looking forward to next year now I’ve done most of the stages.

Just need to sort this gearbox out now. RSX are being helpful and are going to redesign to diff to be bolt in. But that doesn’t help me even if I have one at cost it will be months before they’d have it made.

And no Jackson retired in stage 10 with a blown gearbox. And Rob retired in stage 4 with his car loosing power the the electrics.
Not the best of days for us Clio lads

Yeah Pete was going very well indeed. He did have about 50bhp on our car too, which certainly helps, but he's a good driver for sure.

I think the compact dimension of the Clio really go in its favour. It's a very small car for the class, so nice and light too. Just a shame that the gearboxes seem to be something of a weak point.

  dan's cast offs.
does the later diff not come with the bolt in plate? sure pms listed them for the earlier type?

Unfortunately for me no.

Currently trying to come up with a solution with them. I’m not going to get a free diff but a diff at cost has been offered but they haven’t said a price.

  Twingo 133 Cup,
They do. The companies are called Sadev and Bacci Romano. You need deep pockets though! Lol!!
I know sadev do the clicky boxes but didn't know about Bacci Romano. Looks very expensive! I bet my 133 box is just as chocolate like is it?

Hopefully will have an update this week from rsx regarding what they’re going to do with my lsd and final drive. @NorthloopCup has been great opening up the box and getting some great videos and pictures of the damage.

In other news I’ve bought another set of these

That’s now 3 full sets.

Now I can sell my speedline turbines as I won’t need them now I’ve got matching wheels

  dan's cast offs.
I know all about them, i was more referring to the deal you had managed to get. As its something i'm looking to do but cant bring myself to spend the £££ they advertise for on the website

will try and remember to dig prices out tomorrow for you.

Whilst the cars in bits I’m going to do a few little jobs that I’ve been wanting to do for a while.
Spare rack stripped ready to be sent to brt motorsport for a quick rack. I’ve got an epas column with ecu and resistor ready to be fitted.
New gripper diff and 5.25 final drive will be bought this week. The diff I should of bought in the first place ?
Spare dash flocked, and I’m thinking of ordering the wilwood 4 pot kit as it fits under my wheels.

The ‘scrap’ will be ready for collection as of Monday evening mate. And yes, yes you should have bought the gripper in the first place. But, having said that, there’s no way we would’ve had as much of a laugh from my videos with choice words about the product and their business manner! Flol! ?
