Cage bolt in/weld in? Daily?

Will I get on any track with a bolt in cage? Weld in safer right?

Having a cage in a daily? Bad idea?

How much am I looking at for a weld in inc fitting? See you can get a safety devices for around £600...

Bolt in is fine and a huge improvement in safety..

The weld is will take it to the next level as they make the cage one with the car, not just some poxy bolt/plates holding it in.. People box in the lefts, bridge the a and b pillars to the shell, run bars to the turrets, anything you want.

For a weld in you would need to strip out the interior ideally, so you don't set fire to anything when welding.

Bolt in would be more practical and you can have it powdercoated before installation, a weld in cage would be painted in situ.
 
even bolt in needs feet welded into the car. The difference is very small indeed compared to that of fitting a cage of any sort.
There are issues with road use of roll cages (mainly bashing your skull in) so read up on those, ensure your seats and harnesses are appropriate, the cage is adequately padded with proper FIA padding (not pipe lagging FFS) and make sure your head cannot make impact with the bars.

I have half cage in my car, which is still a daily. No issues at all.
Do half cages up safety at all? Very in interested in going to the Nurburgring this year and I have seen what happens to cars when they roll... Thinking of going bucket seats and cage route...
 
As mine is a cheapy ebay special cage, I doubt it does too much, may even make it more dangerous in some situations. But a proper Safety Devices cage or something similar, I have no doubt would be a help in case you end up on your roof.

Just get a 6 point safety devices or similar if you really must have one, that way you can keep the half cage in for daily duties and when you want to track it just fit the front hoop and door bars. Personally id get pissed off not having any back seats, unless you are doing lots and lots of tracks every year where your driving is fully honed to/over the limit of the car then is it really worth it? just drive responsibly and to the limit of the car and your own abilities.

Question is are you having a full cage or just a rear???

Personally if it was just a rear I'd approach someone mark fish as I know he deals with safety devices who offers a rear bolt in and being a safety devices item it's going to be A1.

As for doing it for a ring trip personally I think it's a slight overkill having been myself. If your off out there to smash BTG times then fair enough but a lot of first timers are that overwhelmed to begin with the whole experience they tend to tutle round.

With it being a daily I personally would go for a rear cage, climbing over door bars and out of bucket seats is soon going to get tiring mate

A roll cage in a daily would drive you nuts.

If you're only doing the odd track day or 'ring trip, then it isn't really necessary. If you're driving so fast at the 'ring that rolling is a possibility, then you're probably driving too fast anyway.

The clio as standard has a very high ncap rating and is very rigid - bear in mind roll cages can be more dangerous without a helmet - your head was not designed to hit metal poles in a crash.

This is coming from a guy with an 11 point OMP weld in cage lol

The clio as standard has a very high ncap rating and is very rigid - bear in mind roll cages can be more dangerous without a helmet - your head was not designed to hit metal poles in a crash.

They are bloody strong, I've had a couple of big ones in these cars and they stand up very well. One of the worse things you can do on them though is gut the doors, there is a lot of strength in them and for what you loose in weight its a very silly mistake to make.

The cage will pull the bolts through the floor of the car, or in the case of my RST attempt to seperate the floor/sill (OK, that is a little different) due to the stress not being spread. With spreader plates it does change things however.

Regarding daily drivers, I live with mine for around a year. It did make life more awkward but I did get used to it. Picking friends and GFs up can be interesting however, especially with the latter!

You have very little access space with a cage / door bars and it would be an absolute pain hopping in and out - it's bad enough in a sprint / hillclimb car where you're in and out a lot during the day!

I'm going to chime in here with a slightly different question so I hope the OP doesn't mine. Rough cost of getting a SD 6 pointer fitted? I can do all the prep work, just not the welding.

You'd be daft to fit a bolt in cage without spreader plates either side of the shell.

I have a feeling the diagonal that slopes down from the dash would be the most annoying part of the cage if I was using it as a daily driver. You can't just swing your legs in and out.

Definitely, so just buy a cage without it, just a single door bar:

If you get a non- dash dodger then the front leg will also be further forward out of the way.
