Best place for new PC?

I've decided on a pc rather than a laptop and want to spend upto £500.

Wheres the best online shop to get it from for specs and price?

I cant seem to find pc+monitor+keyboard etc on overclockers, they all seem to be seperate. Ideally looking for a site that does a deal where monitor and keyboard are inc in the bundle.

I wouldnt have a clue how to build a pc myself. Do you mean customize is on one of these sites to suit myself...

Also i'm not sure on o/s. I've been using xp sp2 for a while and have heard mixed reviews about vista, not sure which one to go for?

Some guy on here posted this website up recently and I selected a system which seems good value for money...

Thoughts?

seems a good system to me, I'm sure the geeks will say you can get more for your money, but I'm like you, just wana pay and get my fooking pc without being too picky. it's only a pc at the end of the day, there's more to life!

So vista or stick with xp? I wouldnt mind trying vista out but worried it will be a pile of crap.

anyone with a decent knowledge of computing will be fine with vista, loads of people complain for no reason other than jumping on the bandwagon.

do it!

I've never used vista, but can't imagine it being awful, and any pre built pc won't have hardware issues, depends if you play games or use old software, they seem to struggle on new o/s's.

yeah i can't find any issues with vista and i upgraded from xp. it looks nicer lol. but no problems whatsoever with it

Only problems with vista are if you are a gamer otherwise its fine. If you are a gamer stick to XP.

Vista can suffer a 40% performance hit in gaming but thats about the only thing thats bad about it. Oh and driver issues which Nvidia and ATI are still yet to sort out cause there lazy chumps.

Not into gaming at all on pc. Will only be used for internet, videos, music, work, etc. No games will be installed.

Seems that cube247 offer the best deal so far.

It was me who posted the cube247 link. I gave em a call as I wanted my system without a monitor (can get a samsung 22" elsewhere) and they gave me an individual price and approx dates for delivery if i ordered straight away.

They seem really good and will be ordering for them in next couple of weeks

Do cube247 send you an actual genuine copy of the windows vista installation cd or just a gay recovery cd?

My other half has priced us up a new PC from www.pcspecialist.co.uk - we can get a pretty good one for £552 - although we don't need monitor, speakers, keyboard or mouse.

I can bore you with the spec if you like lol

elaborate on this.

40% performance hit?

i find that very hard to believe.

oh and nvidia drivers are piece of piss to download/install. Not 1 problem with mine on vista

Back on xp with my ati i had no end of issues with them.

I never mentioned the install. I said they had issues. SLI is bloody hopeless under Vista due to driver problems. And performance in certain applications under vista can be around 40% lower just because of the new system.

Vista is not doing particularly well especially with gamers who are mainly choosing to stay on XP due to performance hits. Identical system with Vista on 1 and XP on the other anandtech recorded 52fps for bf2 under vista and 77fps under XP. Quite a substantial drop.

Im not bothered about games. No games will be installed. The only tasking thing i'll be doing for the graphics card will be watching youtube videos etc.

Well surely sp2 will be a free download for vista, so theres no point me getting a pc with xp on it, only to pay for a copy of vista when sp2 comes out for it. I may as well get vista now, use it and wait for the updates.

I think for the tasks i'm wanting to do i.e - play music, watch videos, browse internet and do the odd word processor work... vista will be fine.

Vista isnt as bad as people make out. The main issues are if you are a gamer, as you are not you should be fine

Guve them a call Chris and ask them about the copy they supply. Im pretty sure it is the full version and not the recovery cds. I would also buy a better graphics card for that pc you want, even if you go for the minimum upgrade on offer you will really notice the difference, especially with Windows Aero thingy.

As a bare minimum on that system i would upgrade the processor and go for vista premium. well worth the extra £60. If you can cope with you old monitor, ring them, buy it without the monitor and do the small upgrades.

We've found a better spec one on Novatech now for just £5 more - it has a 320 gig hard drive and a better processor so we'll probably go for that.
