Ashers' BG 182

  Skoda Fabia VRS
I could read this over and over, utterly fantastic car. Very inspiring too, I may have to pick your bones at some point about detailing products.

Thanks for the generous comments guys.

Only small update.

First up, few pictures of my car at the recent Origine RS show at Goodwood.

I bought a new gear gaiter to have trimmed in the alcantara material I have. Had to buy a new gaiter, as the two clips on the base of my old one had broken so was not secure.

IMG_3239_zpsryzl5u5s.jpg

Then I dropped off the gaiter, along with a set of dash trims, to a local trimmers last week to have them done in alcantara. Picked them up yesterday. More than happy with them...

So, the old gaiter (clips also broken)...

Just ordered some Motul 300V oil, oil filter, 10L of Renault coolant, and a new expansion tank bottle, ready for another service in mid-September.

All for now.

Just gets better and better . What did you end up doing with the flocked dash strips they sent you?

Gets those door cards and rear seats changed though:wink:

Thanks mate. Somebody has already bought the flocked dash strips (a guy who saw my car at Origine RS on the weekend).

Think I am going to keep the door cards and rear seats though! The door cards I do prefer in suede, but Recaro's came factory fitted with the cloth cards and basic rear bench, just like the Trophy's. So I think I am going to keep it factory in that sense, plus in my mind it is lighter this way 😂

Looking forward to seeing this on Sunday! (I'm stealing Ash's BTB Exhaust)

Can't help but think I am going to regret selling the BTB! See you Sunday.

damn! haha. Was hoping you still had them as really want a set but he rarely lists them and i always get outbid on them. Gone a little flocking crazy with mine 😂

And yeah thats fair enough, would look good though as you say but going oem+ kind of need to keep them i guess.

Time for bit of an update.

First up, booked the car in with Rentech on Friday, to have the following done:

Fit new genuine power steering pump
New power steering fluid
Coolant change
Fit new genuine expansion tank bottle
Oil and filter change with Motul 300V oil, and also fit a Gold magnetic sump plug
Fit Evol Engineering dog bone mount

Few pics of parts ready to be fitted...

Next up is wheels... long story! Saw a freshly refurbished set of Turini's come up for sale, and bought these as it was financially better than getting mine refurbished. So I got the tyres swapped over to the new Turini's and had them fitted to the car. Here is a pic of one of the newly refurbished wheels (no pics of them on the car as they weren't on long enough!)...

IMG_3278_zpsokp0awdr.jpg

IMG_3275_zpsvaj1wlge.jpg

However, as I say, they weren't on the car that long! I had been thinking about having my first set refurbished in a light grey, something different. After seeing the new wheels on the car, they looked very similar to before (still anthracite) but obviously just a bit tidier. I wasn't 100% happy considering I really wanted to give grey a go. So I decided to have my old set refurbished in Porsche Sport Classic Grey (paid extra to have the paint ordered) and then to sell the newly refurbished anthracite set (hope you are keeping up!). Could have just had mine refurbished in the first place, never mind!

It was a good excuse to order a set of Yokohama AD08R's at the same time, and have these fitted once the wheels came back from powdercoaters.

So, how they looked when I went to go and pick them up...

IMG_3293_zpsuivwvlve.jpg

Fitted to the car...

And the new AD08R's...

IMG_3306_zpslmm6eh2b.jpg

Wheels look a million time better in real life! Mega happy with them. Really offset the black well, and I have had so many comments on them you wouldn't believe! Really need to be seen to be appreciated, colour can't be properly picked up from my iPhone camera.

Sunday I went and swapped my Cup spoiler for a Trophy one which had already been sprayed in Black Gold. Finally the last missing Trophy piece has now been sourced!

IMG_3315_zpsnrd0oki7.jpg

IMG_3317_zps9vd233sb.jpg

IMG_3325_zps6datvt9s.jpg

Looks much, much better with the Trophy spoiler. Very happy! Although I am missing how much further the boot opens with the Cup spoiler.

I then took a controversial move and ordered a pair of 'Trophy' decals for the skirts in anthracite, seeing as the car is full Trophy spec. Just means that if someone asks about the decals, I can explain why they are there (car has Sachs fitted etc etc), bit of a conversation starter potentially. I am not one to normally badge my cars as something they are not, but in this instance I decided to go for it as I really like how they look, and it is basically a Trophy minus the red paint and numbered plaques! How they look...

IMG_3319_zpswdikpths.jpg

IMG_3318_zpsybs7wmko.jpg

Treated the car to a well deserved wash including a snow foam...

IMG_3308_zpsgwtkah1z.jpg

IMG_3310_zpsezupwoq4.jpg

IMG_3309_zpsdlvsn7xx.jpg

Next up, I ordered a pair of rear adjustment shims from Pure Motorsport to have the rear aligned...

IMG_3312_zpsskoxuzqf.jpg

Also bought a pair of genuine inner tie rod kits, as there was still some play in the steering and a slight knock too, and every other suspension part has been changed within the last month which left these to be replaced.

IMG_3313_zpsimh8thh4.jpg

Both the inner tie rods and rear shims were fitted today, along with another alignment/tracking session. Everything all nice and tight and solid now.

Managed to get a picture of the dog bone mount fitted whilst the car was up on the ramp. Love how it has really stiffened everything up, in a good way. Slightly more vibration in the cabin at idle, but nothing I can't live with, especially given the benefits from having it fitted. Everything feels so much more connected, really is a great little mod.

IMG_3326_zpspdj1l8pn.jpg

Also cleaned up the wheels and took a few more pictures whilst they were off the car today. Was just trying to get a better picture of how the colour looks, but again they need to be seen really! Can also see the top of the Sachs and the Mark Fish springs that were fitted a few weeks back, in the bottom pic.

IMG_3332_zpswdtngelq.jpg

IMG_3333_zpszyoero0g.jpg

IMG_3334_zpsguldmkdo.jpg

Finally, I went for a drive along some of the finest West Sussex roads today on the way home from having the above work done. Car got absolutely filthy so needs cleaning again already, but it was an absolute joy to drive. This car is epic. Stopped off in the supermarket to do some shopping and get a couple of quick snaps. She is filthy (worse than the pictures show) but at least looks used!

IMG_3336_zpsjrqknxlr.jpg

Time to enjoy driving it for a bit now.

@Ash J Wheels definatley look sweet, think you made the right choice in the end keeping them. Where did you get you alignment done, need mine doing soon

This car is amazing! I love it!

Thanks mate :)

Looking fantastic as usual mate, really do love this car!

Thanks for the kind words :)

Yeah glad I stayed with Turini's, so happy with the colour. Look so much better in person, so many comments on them.

Alignment I had done at Nad UK who is in Littlehampton. Bit far to travel but he fitted all my suspension and knows what he is doing. Somewhere more local is The Wheel Alignment Centre in Southampton, heard they're pretty good.

Gold plug is here... http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-83976-g...ain-sump-plug-for-renault-vehicles-ap-10.aspx

Not a massive amount to update on.

Bought a pair of new Magnetti branded BMW 1 series boot struts for the tailgate, no longer falls on my head!

IMG_3378_zps3hfp8ups.jpg

Bought a boot mat to tidy up the rear, and also a genuine Renault 'Elf oil top up kit' (1L of Elf SXR 5w40) which attaches via some velcro on the back, nice touch!

On a very sad note, car is advertised for sale, and can be seen in the classifieds. Absolutely gutted to be letting this beauty go.

I am gutted too.

Selling due to trying to buy a house in the near future. Going to go without a car for a while (don't live far from work at all), and do some hardcore saving. Will hopefully be back in another soon enough, but I know I won't find anything as good, plus it's nice knowing I got it to the current spec myself instead of buying it like it (costs more mind).

Drove up the hill earlier, and absolutely everybody was looking at this, she comes up real clean and is a real head turner, will hurt to see this driven away.

Stef, if you still want a passenger ride in this before it goes (experience the Sachs etc), more than happy to pop up to take you out in it.

Id love to see it ash since you have done all the work!

Weird i was thinking of this car just the other day and that it would be one of very few to get me back in a clio and then i see the for sale ad lol

Yeah just send us a message or something, whenever you are free I'll pop up, I am about most of the time. Be good to see the '32 as well.

I almost want to sell it on the terms of being able to buy it back when I want after getting a house! Doubt there is a better driving 182.

Yeah ok mate just drop me a message. Probably will still be here by then I would imagine.

Yeah that is the thing, would be very difficult to find one at the level I have mine at, particularly given how fussy I am with cars.

That Ph1 was lush, there will never be another like that I wouldn't think.

Sad to read you have to sell it after doing so much to it over the last few months and turning it into a great example. Wish I had found one like this when I was looking to buy one for sure. whoever gets it will be lucky indeed!

So I said farewell to my absolute pride and joy today. Was really hard seeing it being driven off, it looked absolutely immense, have never seen it driven by anybody else before. But the new owner is a really nice chap, this is his 3rd Clio Sport, and I know he will look after it. He said he will be starting a project thread on here himself so I look forward to his updates.

My last picture with my good lady, to bring an end to the most fantastic 6 months. Such an emotional day.

Guys I have taken this wonderful car off Ash, and can assure all it is in good hands. The car is just incredible to drive, its a real credit to Ash.

I will no doubt start my own project thread, although in terms of changes, there really isn't much I want to do, just maintain it and enjoy it!

The small list I have consists of:
- 197/200 Brembo front brake set-up with 300mm discs.
- New genuine front splitter
- 172 xenons with the black inserts
- Adjustable ARB.
- Possibly 172 rear bench & door cards, however, the current fabric ones are quickly growing on me.

Cheers,
Matt

What an expensive 6 months haha! Did you use somewhere local to refurb your wheels? @Ash J

Yep, The Wheel Specialist in Fareham, nice bunch of chaps down there.

What is the wheel colour? Think it may suit my RB.

Porsche Sport Classic Grey. I gave them the paint code and had to pay extra for paint to be ordered. It was a gamble as never seen it before, but they look the nuts. Amazing colour.

Look after her Matt, I know you will.

Missing the car so much already 😞

Look forward to seeing what you do to it. I approve of all the mods on your list, except from changing the door cards and rear bench  look forward to seeing some 197 Brembo's behind those wheels.

The rear bench and door cards have grown on me and you'll be please to know are staying! :)

Thoughts on brembo colour? Think red might look out of place, therefore, black?

Pleased to here they're staying!

As for Brembo's I think red would clash with wheel colour, in my opinion of course. If it was me then either black yes, or maybe a dark/anthracite grey. Look nice behind the colour of the wheels.

You will be gutted after selling this. However a house is way more important, hope you get what you are looking for.

Where did you get the boot mat from?
