Well braved the snow and got the 172 collected today from a fellow cs member, sound block. So she's unloaded and on drive now and about to start the stripping in the snow

Ok after much deliberation I decided that modifying the 200 for a trackday toy was daft, only getting the car less than a year ago brand new meant I would throw away too much by stripping it etc, plus weight wise with trailer and car my jag won't pull it to track.... So hello 172

Found on cliosport and in reasonable good nick was this 2002 ph2 172, in march last year Mick @ Diamond Motors did the belts and dephaser and the reciept for £663 came with the car, along with old mot's and history. Last MOT expired in December 2012, so onky two weeks out of test and no advisories, only negatives that car has is a bit of rust around arches and a dented passenger door.

So with price negotiated all was arranged to collect car yesterday, woke up to some quite bad snow but that wasn't stopping me, main roads clear so go for it. Got to guys house and started the car up and she sounded good, went inside to pay and came out to it loaded on trailer and ready to go. Took a few attempts to get onto trailer due to snow. Getting off the side road with a trailer on back in the trusty skoda I had borrowed off mate was fun but hit the main roads and home shortly after.

Wasting no time the stripping began

So car stripped and headed off for to drop mate off and get him a pint for helping and lending me his car

Slight update done nothing on car today just spent money on ebay and on here......

so bought

and just waiting on a pm back off a member on here who has some side runners and tailored subframes which will make it a lot easier to fit

Just one daft question.... will spraying the entire interior panels of the car in lime green look stupid.....

Lime green? I wouldn't do it myself mate, I'd do it boring black or haha. Lime green might ruin your focus on track? Or am I talking b*llocks?

No mate, bought a pair of seats. Lime is just one of my thoughts, bought black for door panels so thinking the lime green with a black cage and black door panels

I'd do a black interior with a lime green cage.

So the lime green is more of an accent colour. That'd look pretty smart I reckon!

Cage ordered and should be here in 10 days, just waiting for some cash to land in my account and then brakes and coilovers will be coming, hopefully before 1st march, ordered a K&N induction kit simply because my hose to air box is pretty shafted

Nice plans. But agree with the entire green interior being a bit too much. Would be really off putting. Probably hypnotising.
So yea black or white with green cage!

Looking good. Think a green cage with Iceburg silver interior will look alright. Green interior would be a bit too much IMO

Slight update.....

Seats have arrived, runners, side mounts and subframes. Strut brace here, tow eye, cage in getting made at moment and having a harness bar fitted on it. Induction kit here and steering wheel and boss, plus resistors have landed too! Just harness's to get and will be hopefully ready for a day of assembly at weekend!

Local powder coater is sorting the cage out in lime green £30! So with a bit of luck 10th February should see the interior almost sorted!

Braided lines ordered and just looking for some new disc's and pads and some coilovers. 1st March could be a fun track day

Decided to add some colour and cure a few light scratches on the mirrors so went for some fluorescent green

Cage in situ, only a few scratches getting if in and luckily they are on the top so aren't seen, if anyone gets one and they are local to West Yorkshire don't hesitate to drop us a pm for a hand putting it in, it was a b!tch to get in and there is a set way via drivers door to manoeuvre it into place

Productive couple of hours, dash top off, passenger airbag removed, steering wheel on (temporary needs wiring) both seats now in and just needs harness's bolting in. Put the mirror caps on and grill....seem to have lost the bolts for them, plus forgot to put the diamond back on and the green has chipped already, gonna sand down and maybe try plastikote.

Just need to bolt the cage in place and harness's, tidy up wiring (not a clue what am doing with it)

Then service and she will be ready for track day, unless......I decide to put coilovers on before the track day

Not normally a fan of in your face colours but I like that. Given me some ideas for mine. Hopefully get on the Landow track day to see if I get the bug and then it's busy with the spanners

Well tomorrow is the first outing in the Clio at oulton park and just for a laugh it went for mot to see what it needed to pass...... The answer was simple NOTHING!!!

Need to fill this thread with some progress.... But there hasn't been that much. Car seriously needs coilovers and some better brakes but had a fun outing at Bedford autodrome with the standard cheese brakes and mattress spring suspension lol

Well..... been a quiet few weeks with a lot going on at work and starting the clearing of land ready to build the new house. But after a few incidents the car is having a bit of a suspension and steering refreshment.

Going on the car are.......
AST Top Mount
Gaz GHA Coilovers
Camber Bolts
New Driveshafts
New Track Rod Ends
New Ball Joints
New Bearings in Front
New ABS Sensors
Steering Boots
Front Calipers rebuilt with new seals etc
DS2500 pads all round
Ultralight Alloys
Aircon delete - Cup alternator, PAS etc

So with a bit of luck and ill wind..... will have it back together in next couple of days tracked up and ready to roll

Been a hectic few months and not had anywhere near the time to get this done. But after a few months of work its finally back together and just been over to Track Torque for a 4 wheel allignment and Geo setup. Car is awesome to drive now the guys over there know there stuff.

From eBay mate, do ya want item number? It's a guy that makes them, probably not the best out there but cheap and I only bought it as wanted a bit of extra safety and a way of mounting harnesses safely. These little things make excellent track toys. Next expense is getting a trailer :s

Cant wait to get started. Getting the belts done, stripping it out, harness cage and bucket seats, brake upgrade and tyres.

Better than selling for peanuts for someone else to have all the fun!
