2002 172 Cup

  172 Cup
Was offered this car in part exchange for my mk4 golf last november.

Being used to solid german cars and really fanciny a change, so I went for it.

Down to Carlisle on the pistonheads advert photos.

Collected the car in Carlisle and made the trip back up to the land of blue and white.
By the time I got to the end of the slip road at Carlisle I thought this thing is a rocket.
This made me grin all the way home.

History:
New Battery - May 11
Maintenance Inspection - 77,000 Miles
As a result the following work was carried out.

Major Service
All Fluids Changed
New Timing & Aux Belt kit
New Clutch
New Driveshaft (Nearside)
New Rear Hub Assembly (Nearside)
New Discsand Pads all round - (Drilled & Grooved)
New Handbrake Cables
New Rear Wheel Bearings
New Wiper Blades
New Hazard switch
New Gear Box - 78,000 Miles

Seemingly a Trophy gearbox was fitted?
Previous owner claimed faster acceleration and a longer 5th gear for motorway driving?
Can anyone confirm or deny this?

This is it back at HQ

Got it home, gave it a service and just enjoyed the car for a while.

I noticed that the tyres would go soft over the week. So decided to get that checked out.
No punctures, just some badly painted Turini's.

Gutted!
So I had the wheels refurbed. By this point I had decided to keep the car for a while so I put my private reggy on it.

Fancied a wee change so got some dubmiester plates.

Only fitted the rear one. Got the plates on magnetic tape so can swap them over whenever I fancy.

Girlfriend was away out one evening and I had just got a new tripod for my camera so went out on a geek mission.

These are the better shots of the evening. Im no professional, this is just me trying hard with a point and shoot and a tripod.

Feeling rather pleased with myself after capturing the above shots I jumped in the car and headed off to the pub.
As I left the car park, I thought I could hear something interesting.
Looking round for another interesting car I realised it was me that was making the noise!!! Gutted!

This was the damage!

I knew the bracket was needing replaced but I didn't see this one coming.
So that as my excuse I got to work.

  172 Cup
Looks good mate. Lowering it next?

Thanks
In two minds, dout I will have it much longer, plus the ride is hard enough, any harder and it will bounce too much I think.
Definetly needs it though........

K-tec Stealth!!! Supersport! (There is nothing stealth about it)

Cheapest after market exhaust available!!
Yaaaaaasss!!!

Big thanks to clio_stu though for setting me up with the exhaust.
I really like the look of it. Hate the noise of it but o well.

It has a pipercross viper induction kit and the k-tec exhaust now. So im good for like 220 brake? right?

Kidding on guys.
I actually really like this car. Impressive performance for what it is.

Fun and cheap motoring! Loves it!

So I did some more work to this car!
It get addictive, I tell you. Smallest changes make the biggest impact.

Ghetto shelter!!!

Thats how we detail in the ghetto.

Then its off with the badges. Holes all sealed from the inside. Insulating tape for some blue colour then sealed with gaffer tape.

Its all in the details. ;)

Then I bumped this idea of magiev6. or magpiev6? You know the one.

05fcaa4e.gif

Shot blasted wheel nuts.

Its not actual shot blast, its a very fine blast of some kind so damage to the metal or thread. So no need to panic.
I am a metal worker, so I have a fair idea of what I'm doing.
However I dont suggest anyone else does it cause you have to keep bloody polishing them! Was a silly idea. I thought wax and polish would keep them nice. But naaaaa.
Off to ebay for some chrome plated ones i think.

Dont seem to have any fitted pictures so ill get them tomorrow or something and get them uploaded for you guys.

As always guys comments welcome.

Thanks for reading.

Looks tidy that! And you panzy, The exhaust is relatively quiet ;) ha! how did you find it after usually driving german cars?

  172 Cup
both if im honest, i would buy a standard for the back and one that fits the recess on the front

I'll defo get a smaller front one on the go then.
Ill try a normal rear one on and get pictures up and we can compare.

Pff!!! I'm done with loud exhausts mate.
The biggest difference is the handling. Even compared to the 4 wheel drive ones I've had.
Power is so, so.

Definetly a fun car to own. Glad I did it.
