  Clio 172 mk2
As always, a good idea would be to 'do your time' in a lower powered car before stepping into something like a 172

  Monaco RS Clio 172
I paid 800 a year for my first car at 17 - escort 1.6 16v lx
I paid 1400 a year for my second car at 17 - clio 1.8
900 a year at 18 - escort 1.8 16v
another 700 a year when I first became 19 for nearly a year before cancelling on another escort 1.8 gti

now I pay 1700 in my own name full comp on my 172.. have legal cover etc.

it is expensive because I pay monthly as I hadn't saved it in one lump, only had enough for the car.. I did try to get a cheaper car, but the first 172 I looked at was a complete dog and it was then I realised I needed to spend at LEAST another grand extra to get a fairly good one :)

if you want something mate, you will pay for it. end of. yes it is muggy. big deal. you only live once.

people say you shouldn't because you should save for a house etc and you will regret it, on the contrary, what if you look back and think, wish I'd had a mental car at 18 19 years old when I DIDN'T have a care in the world ;)

  Audi TT 3.2 V6
Im 22 (Male) and pay £800 inc legal protection and my girlfriend on the policy. (Directline)
Was around £740 on my own without legal protection, i paid £960 the year before with Greenlight.

I wouldn't even consider having a 182 at £2400 to insure as your paying out £2400 for something which you would be too scared to use unless you completely wrote the car off.

  Lotus Exige, 182
Russ_182 makes a valid point - remember also that you will be pretty much forced by the insurance company to have a big excess (mine's £600) so the only time you will probably use the policy is if you write the car off.

If it were my money, I'd wait a couple more years. If it's someone else's money, go for it!

i know ai lol.

ive already paid it once so im not bothered about paying for it now.
one of my mates got a scooby the other got a fiesta st and a zetec s so i wan something fast too

hang on?!?! did anyone else not notice this post? you certainly don't need a 182 to keep up with any of those!

IMO over £1k on insurance is just madness. Highest I ever paid was £800 and that was my first car.

Paying over £2k just so you can keep up with your mates is just silly. Save the money, spend it wisely and when all your mates are in mega debt wondering where all thier money has gone and have to sell thier cars to make ends meet you'll be laughing...

which company are you with, martin, if you don't mind me asking?

admiral mate, should give them a try if your a young driver, they seem to be brilliant for us.

as for to do it or not do it, personally id pay it, i payed £2500 3rd party on my 172 when i got it at 17 and that was paying it all in 1 lump so not the added interest if you pay monthly, yep £2500 could have bought me a lot, holiday or 2, much better car etc etc but i dont care imo it was worth every penny!

you cant even get insurance on anything for less than a grand at 17 unless you want a 1.1 on your mams name and get no no claims.

Comical - £2500 3rd party! It's not ever going to be worth it because you just gave away £1500 - £2000 for nothing! How can all that money for nothing be worth it? And 3rd party - no sense!

Have to disagree - the Clio is not that good! Paying upwards of £2500 just to insure 3rd party is the dumbest thing I've heard. Did the customer service rep laugh at you at all?

"Yes Sir, that'll be £2500, 3rd party.....cough, splutter, hahahahahaha!!!"

  Inferno 182 cup
Tbh mate i would just leave it for now..i had a Vtr at 18..was hard to get me insured on that even with 2yrs NCB..ended up payin near enuff £900 at the time! Picked up a 182 cup about a month ago..6yrs NCB £458 im paying for that now which i think is pretty good for my age (22yrs), as the rest are sayin tho expect to pay £2k+ so it would really be worth it.

you are one spoilt muthafucka, i cant even afford the insurance on my valver. you'll only go and write off a 182, then you'll have fun trying to insure another

  ST
PMSL usual CS tossers out in force! It's a RS clio not a sodding Veyron!!!

Indeed mate...

I had my 182 when i was 20, still living to tell the tale..

IF i could've had something faster i would've but insurance wouldn't allow.

Stop hatin guys.

Go for it mate if that's what you want to spend your money on. If you want to go to uni though after college or anything then don't do it unless it's local because that'd be wasting money on something you're not gonna use.

I'm defo gonna get a 172/182 when I'm 18/19 if I don't end up going to uni :D

Spend your money whilst you've still got it to spend ;)

^Ignore them mate. I got the Vee when i was just 21, I wanted one so bought one simple as that...

What confuses me most is most c***s on here live at home and work...SO even if your earning min wage...or 16k ish...You're still going home wi a grand or so! Whats 200quid on insurance when you have no morgage or bills to pay!!! I barely have a grand to spend after all my bills are paid!

Live for now, not for tomorrow!!!

If you can afford it do it!
I'm 19 with 2ncb and pay £1800 for a modified 182. If you can manage to wait until you are in the same position I was then would be better, but they are awesome cars, and for me well worth the insurance tag, especially considering I paid more at 17 for a 1.2 16v!

Pay what you want mate, IMO it's daft as you'll enjoy it more in a few years and be paying half that price. I'm 21 and I'm paying 590 on a 172 cup, it's worth the wait.

£590 is probably worth it, £2500 isn't. You wouldn't pay £2000 more than the askimg price, so why would you on insurance?

Ali, just because you got a Vee doesn't mean you can start calling everyone c**nts! Is it just your opinion that counts? Whether he earns £1K a month or £10K, £2500 for insurnace on any Clio is madness. Fun or not!

Say who...You??!

Come off it!! If he wants to do, who are you to say it's daft!

Having a Vee is nout to do with it...

People on here (Identified rightly as c***s) perceive that if you spend more that 500 on insurance your
A/ Stupid
B/ Have more money than sence.
C/ Your not payin.
D/ If you have the car, you will write it off.

You don't know his circumstances, and this is what gets my bak up time and time again. Then again it's a forum, that much can be expected.

It's common sense.

If he didn't want it discussed (both sides of the discussion) then why did he post it? So therefore, I am allowed to post my thoughts/advice. Neither of us know his circumstances but we both posted our advice. So why are you not a c**t for giving him, what people may view, bad advice? I respect what you posted, even though I don't agree.

Same rules mate. If he goes for it then fine, but I think it's daft.
