172 cup MOT failure on emissions!??

Hello, my clio 172 cup failed a MOT on emissions the other day. Standard CAT on it and a pipercross airfilter (not induction). I think the back box is not standard but thats about it. It's 52 plate with 49k on it. Any ideas? I think the air filter needs changing but could some thing as simple as a dirty air filter make it fail? i'm hoping to god its not the cat:S. Any ideas girls and boys? Danton

just got it back from the garage and apparently my back box is stainless steel and he's taken it apart and welded it together, goes like a treat now! Sounds alot better too!
