172 cup blower into ph-1 172 with air-con removed?!

Well my master plan did not quite work..

The plug fits into the blower, but does not work :/
there are more wires in the connector then terminals on the blower socket (if that makes sense?!)

So any ideas ;)

Took the original connector out of the air con set up, they are near identical, but has another 6 -7 terminals..

If I could work out how to re-wire the plug that may work?!?!

grrr hate electrical problems :(

Riolling with out heaters or blowers FTL!

Gray ive not had a close look at one but does the cup fan have a resistor pack on it/in it?

This is how blowers normaly work.

The interior fan switch supplies 4 different lives depending on what position the switch is in. These are wired to different parts of the resistor depending on the speed required.

On mine I found all the original lives at the plug. I didnt wire any of them up coz im only running it on one speed (For now, think that is a mistake tbh) I just found the wire that is live when the switch is in position 4 and wired it straigt to the motor (other side is just a simple earth)

Following this principle you can find out what wires are what speed and wire to the resistor.

If it doesnt have a resistor then you could get one off and old ford escort/.transit or similar. Very easy to wire up, just spade terminals. Only gives 3 speeds not 4 but thats what i will be using when the time comes

The set-up is near identical to the Ph-1 aircon blower.. The same green resistor pack, with the separate black and red wire that goes to the fan.

I will get some photos up tomorrow....

I know "how" it should work and "how" it should be re-wired... But knowing how it should go and me working that out are two very different things :S

Cheers for the info Burp, I shall be getting the multimeter out tomorrow!

But if you can get hold of a cup blower, they are perfect for us... all original fixing points, literally drops in.. and no more than 2KG

meh, my escort one works fine cost me £8 and weighs less than the phase 1 fan unit did.

Might be worth rigging up some wires just to make sure the fan works first before you get in a mess trying to figure it out

LOL.....

It would be a piece of piss if I could just plug the damn thing straight in! ;)

Got today off work, so shall try and tackle it later

Success!!

Got the blower fitted and working correctly... after dicking around for an hour today I finally realised the reason

The connector pin for the postive connection (shown below) on the fan was bent, so was not going into the plug correctly :dead:

Do not know why I did not check/realise this earlier LOL!

So for future reference the 172 cup blower does plug straight in.
