Brake servo setup is very good work. I have wondered if a similair setup can be done for ages, im not a huge fan of the transfer bar setup.
Just a note, check the properties on the primer you have used, most primer is porous and if it gets wet will suffer, compromising anything you paint over...
That sounds about right. I think they where only fitted in the E46 Clubsports or the Compact Sports, there isnt a lot of either in scrapyards. Might be cheap enough from the dealers.
Theres a lot of weight in the sunroof catridge on an E30. We left it in the last one i worked on, it was running...
You can remove the sunroof mechanism and weld the panel in from below, then seal from above so it looks like there is a rubber seal in. It looks pretty OE, if done properly, and will pass scrutineering if needed, as its a steel panel in place.
E46 Compact Sport rack is the one to go for, other...
I can understand what your saying.
It depends how much you value your time compared to paying to get it jigged.
You know this shell is solid (not a given with E30's, most are pups now) and you have put the work in on the shell to get it this far. Seams a shame to give up and start again. All...
It should pull out on a jig that, know need for a reshell.
I know a guy in Kirkby that does it. He builds track cars, Landrover offroaders and does jig work.
He jigged 2 cars i know of that where far worse than that.
Worth taking the car up on the trailer if you could, not going to loose...
My post wasnt meant to be negative, only informative. Something that has always been lacking on this forum.
Did the instructions tell you to run just 1 nozzle for the driver?
If you have a crystal ball you can provide me so that i can see the issues your likely to encounter, i will happily...
The nozzle in the pax footwell just points at the extinguisher, there are no electrics currently there. If thats there intended location, it makes more sense, but i dont know that. It still needs a second pointing at the driver, removing one of the ones from the engine bay would be the other...
A few issues and observations.
I dont like the way you have run the fire system. The nozzle you have pointed at the passenger footwell, what it is there for? That nozzle should be pointing at your face/chest. The 2 in the cabin should be at the drivers feet, and the chest as stated above, it is...
Do you seriously think that 1 M10 10.9 bolt can provide the same amount of rigidity and strength as a 400mm 3mm steel plate stich welded at 15-20mm gaps, oh dear.
And the t**t strip comments make me laugh, try driving a caged car in the summer without one.
Where abouts are you based?
How long is that bar? I have a nice 2.5 ft breaking bar that hasn't failed me yet, and it can always be extended with a scafold pole!!
Plates should be made from 3mm steel, the reason is that the steel in the floor of the car is about 1mm think per skin, most of which is single skin. The plate is to distribute the load better in a crash, like diving into a pool as aposed to a belly flop!!
The cage will have been designed...
This is a car built by Ford SVT in the US, comes with a bolt-in-cage and is billed as a Track Pack spec.

During/After
See the cage punched through the floor?
So you recon the plates that you have underneath the floor are going to be upto the job?
I see...
All that effort on the interior, and you havent welded plates in for the cage. Thats going to be about as much use as cage made from plastic plumbing. Good luck if it rolls, you will need it......
Steve doesn't own the white shell anymore.
It was converted to a CSL cup car in 2009, but has been moved on in favour of a new shell with a weld-in instead of a bolt-in cage for the 2010 season.
It is currently being built up at Schirmer Motorsport in Germany, ready for the 2010 season.
Take a look at the guys website, some of the best automotive photography you will find IMO.
His name is Jochen, and he lives about 10 mile from the Ring, hence all the VLN pictures etc on his site.
