Just bought another 197 after 2 years of having a workvan ,i have been changing my steeringwheel
Over the weekend and had my battery disconnected, now my radio is asking for the code ive tryed a code that was wrote onthe top of the headunit and have also gave people the serial from the back but...
Autoglass will supply new trims (just tell them they are dammaged) nationals wont and they are ruff as hell ,although i do work for autoglass so am a little 1 sided lol

I had this problem on my girlfriends 1.2 and turned out to be the manifold lambda giving a false reading and was oviously trying to dump all the waste gases into the cannister ,might be worth having a scan for any fault codes
Sounds abit lyk a sticky throttle body flap this used to happen with my old golf the flap was all gunked up and wasnt shuting properly ,failing tht try checking for split hoses ect
Happened my old 172 but managed to get a magnet in and recover 2 big bits of it although there was still a big chunk stuck in the box somewhere,drove it arround for a few weeks with know isdues until the new circlip kept poping out of its seat ended up welding it in at the finish as aparently...
Correct, you could try taking the aux belt off and starting the car oviously not for very long as the water pumps on this belt just to see if the noise goes away and if it doesnt then it with be the dephaser
Sounds lyk a noisy dephaser and a bearing if you ask me could just be all the dephaser , and if tge dephaser gets too bad it can knock the timing out a touch and cause a bad idle
