Hey thanks for that. Have found it BUT how does it come out? There are 2 clips that I assume need depressing and then pull but it doesn't want to come out. I wrestled with one on my spare engine/gearbox and it was a real mission and that was not in the cramped confines of the car.
Does anyone know how to seperate the small black connector under the drivers seat. Is there a trick to this connector? Have tried for 45 min and it wont come apart.
I have now had a compression test done and had a test for air leaks. Both normal. Could my problem be throttle body and if so how can I tell? There is nothing coming up on diagnostics checks.
Could the ecu mapping be out? I have the RS tuner RON98 program. Should I re-install it?

Can you tell me about the 2 vacuum hoses that come off in front of the throttle body (engine side). Where do they go and what do they do. One goes under the left guard near the headlight and the other larger one towards the firewall.

Overtensioning was the cam belt.
I have the cam locking plate for the flywheel end only so adjust with the crank and cams locked and both pulleys slackened and then adjusted.
I have just replaced the cam belt and all the pulleys after collapsing one of the idler pulleys and bending the inlet valves. Have a spare motor so have changed over the complete head. also replaced the aux belt. All back together but after a 5 minute run there is a very loud screeching noise...
long term the best fix is to replace all the bolts with studs and wheel nuts. Never anymore problems and a lot stronger as well as easier to change wheels at any time.
I have enlarged the dia of a spare 172 throttle body that I have by 5mm BUT when I reconnect it to the car the throttle pedal has no effect. Have rebooted the computer but no luck. All it will do is idle. Is the ECU not recognising the modified unit perhaps??

Sorry I didn't get a pic and as the lights and bumber are all back together it might not be too easy. The cut is pretty much exactly midway between the 2 apertures where you get at the bulbs. I will try for a photo from under the bonnet and see what I can do.
