Hey thanks for that. Have found it BUT how does it come out? There are 2 clips that I assume need depressing and then pull but it doesn't want to come out. I wrestled with one on my spare engine/gearbox and it was a real mission and that was not in the cramped confines of the car.

I have a 172 with a speedo that works fine for about 10 minutes and then goes to zero. Can someone tell me where to find the speedo sensor.

Does anyone know how to seperate the small black connector under the drivers seat. Is there a trick to this connector? Have tried for 45 min and it wont come apart.

I have now had a compression test done and had a test for air leaks. Both normal. Could my problem be throttle body and if so how can I tell? There is nothing coming up on diagnostics checks. Could the ecu mapping be out? I have the RS tuner RON98 program. Should I re-install it?

Can you tell me about the 2 vacuum hoses that come off in front of the throttle body (engine side). Where do they go and what do they do. One goes under the left guard near the headlight and the other larger one towards the firewall.

I thought of an air leak but not had it tested yet. Will see what I can organise. New gasket as it came with the top end gasket set. You said gaskets (plural) were you thinking of anything else? I di not use anything on the gasket. Should I. Cheers, Pat

I have recently changed the head on my 172 due to bent inlet valves. Now it won't idle. I have checked and rechecked the timing and am happy it is OK. I have swapped all of the sender units, TDC etc, etc but nothing alters. I have now swapped the dephaser and still nothing. The engine is running...

Overtensioning was the cam belt. I have the cam locking plate for the flywheel end only so adjust with the crank and cams locked and both pulleys slackened and then adjusted.

It appears that I ovetightened the tensioner. Have readjusted and all is quiet except that engine is running pretty rough.

I have just replaced the cam belt and all the pulleys after collapsing one of the idler pulleys and bending the inlet valves. Have a spare motor so have changed over the complete head. also replaced the aux belt. All back together but after a 5 minute run there is a very loud screeching noise...

long term the best fix is to replace all the bolts with studs and wheel nuts. Never anymore problems and a lot stronger as well as easier to change wheels at any time.

I still cannot get it to install on Vista. I have borrowed a friends laptop with XP and it is installed OK.
