TBH most of the 'newer' screens have very low standby power consumption - my Pioneer 43" plasma consumes 0.7w on standby..... Don't think many LCD's would get much better....
Most of the HD ready screens have to process the image to fit the res of the screen - typical LCD's 1366x768 have to process 'upscale' an SD 576i image to fit the 768 line image of the display.
the 'full' HD 1920x1080 screens have far more processing to do with an SD image - sometimes...

It's really each to their own, I researched LCD/plasma for over a year before being in a position to buy one and found that LCD's just didn't cut it, although I don't play Xbox on mine for 8 hours a day:rasp: (only 3 hours;) )
