1) Its angle vs speed.
2) From memory the E9 IX has 40/60 split with a clever torque control.
3) Yes you're nearly right but an open diff isn't essential. Again this is dependant on what 4/AWD system.

Edit: You can have 1200bhp if you have 0 talent you're simply not going to be able to have a CONTROL drift.

1. No. Read point 1 again. If you don't have the front wheels spinning you won't be able to vector force left and right with the front wheels, similar to a bow thruster on a ship. If you don't have the rear wheels spinning you'll understeer.

3. I meant he had an open diff, and that's why it wouldn't work. With open diffs you will loose the most power through the wheel with the least grip i.e. the front inside wheel. You could control it by braking that wheel, but it's a sap on power then.

Several reasons really.

1. You do not have enough power. For a AWD car to drift well, it needs enough torque to spin all 4 wheels. So you need lots of torque from the engine, short gear ratios, or a low friction surface.
2. Most AWD cars have a fairly central torque split. Most cars are around 40-50% of power to the front wheels, which causes a lot of understeer. KB's fiesta probably has a 20-30% distribution.
3. Open diffs. You need locked diffs/LSD's or you're just going to piss all the power out through the front wheels. Which also causes understeer.


I'm not saying KB has no talent, he can be pretty good, he's had a few strong finishes when he's not crashed or broken down, but he's even more inconsistent than Yari Matti Latvala used to be, and way more inconsistent than McRae.

And RE drifting a AWD car set up like that being easy, well yes it is. Definitely easier than drifting a RWD car because if you over-angle it you just give it full lock and drop a gear and it WILL come back to you. It is nothing like driving a normal AWD car so you can't relate to it if you've just driven a scooby, chucked it in and booted it, then wondered why you understeered off the road, which is what I imagine Bonxy was thinking.

100% computer skill 0% real world experience.

40/60 split will not give you under steer... Ask a grown up you know who may own a IX HKS and tell me that understeers...

A controlled drift IS speed vs angle regardless of power. Most cars roll off the line performance vs economy however most can over come most with talent. Ken Block has talent at what he does.

Where did I say that I was a better driver than him? In actual fact I have already said that at times he can be a good driver, but inconsistent. I didn't realise that we had to be superior to literally everyone to even pass comment on them. In that case we'd better close down football chat, because clearly nobody in there has a right to an opinion either.

Perhaps you'd like to adjust the DCCD on your M3? Again, we'll have to close down CS, because nobody can pass comment on the new ferrari until they've owned one and won a world championship with it.
