Im the same as you Seb. Had the 4 since release day, very slow now. On a simplicity tariff £12 a month so don't want a new contract but new house and getting married next year mean no spare cash. Unless Apple do 0% finance then it's contract for me unfortunately :(

I've always gone for 24 month contracts and only once has that not worked for me when I decided to venture into Android territory.

Sold the Nexus POS and got back into iPhone and now ready to go with the 5S for a couple years.

There is no way the Mrs will let me spend our daughter's pre-school term fees on a phone in a lump sum, so I'll do it the sneaky way... I HAD to take the contract to get the data and, uh, minutes and stuff.

The O2 tariffs still work out cheaper than buying the phone outright and picking a similarlly spec'd sim only tariff on O2.

£150 cheaper to take the O2 contract for 2 years as opposed to iPhone outright and 24 months sim only plan.

The tariffs are also only examples. More to be coming within the next week.

Giffgaff - way forward!

Total cost over 24 months = £837 which includes unlimited data.

I can't see any deals coming near that with decent data packages.

but sadly I'm in no position to pay outright :-(

What do you use for visual voicemail, if you do at all, when with Giffgaff.

That is what I really like about o2.

Thanks,

G.

Just ring voicemail. 443 on giffgaff. Wasn't bothered with no visual voicemail tbh.

I don't want to go through all my voicemails, I get lots.

I just want to pick and choose which ones I classify as important prior to listening to all the crap :)

I use Libon.

It's free I think and is brilliant. You can also set customised answer phone messages which include variables such as the callers name etc.. Proper freaks people out

O2 on their £32 per month contract works out at £818.

How much of your GiffGaff price is phone and how much is "airtime"?

Its not always a benefit to buy handset only and a cheap sim, when I was pricing my iPhone 5 up it worked out about £40 cheaper for a contract over the two year period in comparison to the handset only plus sim. Plus I have unlimited Internet rather than the 1 or 2gb that was offered on the sim only.

I know. Hence the reason we are looking at taking contract this time around.

People on here are idiots in general really, they think it's 'baller' to buy handset only when it often isn't the case. I bought my 4S handset only as that was worth doing, but recently contracts have offered better deals when wanting 500 mins and unlimited Internet.

Not to mention the benefit of spreading the cost rather than a big lump

Personally I'd rather pay that extra 50p per day for the flexibility that SIM-only allows. Everyone has different priorities though.

You can sell a contract handset the same as you can a sim only one though, so the only flexibility lies within not being tied up to a contract which is hardly a big financial commitment as you'd have to pay a fee monthly which ever option you took

I paid a sum towards the handset and had the perfect balance of contract to get the best deal, think its £36 for a 32GB iPhone 5.

My 36 pound a month contract has only ever been 36 pounds a few times :(

Pay as you go is the way forward!

Pay as you go is the way forward!

If you want to Pay Hand Over Fist, yes.

For low users, a cheap monthly SIM-Only is normally a better bet than pre-pay
FOr users who actually use their phone - a suitable tariff.

After years of doing the phoneshop game, I can say with conviction that Pre-pay is a just an expensive ball ache.

Black 32GB 5S for me I think. I would love the 5S in the 5C case to be honest, plastic does mark a bit more but it's better than scuffed glass imo. 120fps video camera is the only thing that swings it for me, couldn't care less about finger prints although the processor means at least it's a bit more future proof I guess.

I want to see the prices of the tarrifs first, there's usually not much benefit to paying for the phone upfront other than you have more flexibility to change tarrifs.

I'm with Three and there's a deal for the One Plan which is £15 per month for 2000 minutes, unlimited text and web.

The only reason I wouldn't go with giffgaff is that they don't allow tethering with the iPhone. And as I understand, if you're caught tethering once jailbroken they just cut your internet service off for 30 minutes each time. Not worth the £3 a month you save or whatever imo.

£288 airtime and I regularly use 3GB plus of data.

How does the £32 per month work out as £818?

£32 x 24 = £768

That means the phone is £50 upfront cost?? Surely that's not right?

from what I read...

5S to be available from £37 a month with an upfront charge of £119.99

Thats £1007 with 1gb of data.

I remember paying 120 for my 16gb 4S on my 36 a month contract.
I don't want to think how much the 32gb will cost but I know I need it :(

I would choose contract if I didn't use so much data, but its something O2 don't offer without spending mega bucks per month.

O2/Giffgaff is all I can use as its the only network provider tht provides service where I most need it.

The one plan is a 12 month sim only deal.

Three do an unlimited 1 month plan which is £12.90pm but has 200min 5000 texts.

Was on three before and service was good, but not up my yard where i needed it most!

Even though that works out more expensive?

I personally for what i want have always found it cheaper to buy outright and go sim only.

Each to their own tbh.

I did some number crunching yesterday - was still cheaper for me.

16GB? Pffft.

What do you get for your £12 per month?

I imagine he is on same as me which is:

250mins, unlimited texts and unlimited data.

I never use all my minutes but eat data whilst on the train everyday.

I'm with Seb on this one, no contract works out anywhere near what I end up paying because once you get tariffs with over 2gb data the prices rocket.

But if you use the O2 1gb plan at £37 for the 5s contract the price is not far off.

If my payout comes anytime soon I'll consider buying outright then going sim free.
32gb 5s outright though?!

That's not too bad, but I'd need nearer 500-600 minutes!

Thats where the difference comes in. For low minute users, giffgaff is perfect.

They do a £15 one with 400mins and £20 for 2000mins but i guess your getting in to contract prices at that point.

So if they aren't doing preorders for the 5S, what are the chances of walking into the apple shop and getting one on Saturday?

dont understand why they arent pre ordering.

Yeah, certainly was with the 5 launch.

If I was single, GiffGaff would be fine, but when you have a girlfriend who yaps, you need the minutes lol!

Probably a fairly good chance. Volumes going through to all the shops are quite high.

Quick question. Is the sim for the 5C & S smaller then the one i currently have in my 4S?
