Its my 172 Cup, the belts on their own were about £14 for the cambelt and about £11 for the Aux I believe, certainly not much more. They were bought from Unipart a supplier I have used for many bits and altho I can't remember the belt manufacturer I did check that they are a company who supply many OEM's.

you just changed the cambelt and not the idlers and tensioner? Jesus-H-himself!!!

I noticed in this section/thread you pay an extra £20 for genuine renault parts... is this recommended, as money is the key issue here.

Theres nothing wrong with getting the non genuine parts is there?

  AMV8, Mk1 Golf
wow you ignor peoples advice more than i do... and thats alot!

dont let a mate do it,

dont get non gen parts

go to one of the traders

go to the bank of mum and dad if you have to

  Yozza'd Titanium 182
I think laura for what its worth your probably right... I mean my mate is a qualified mechanic but its probably better to take it NW performance.

  AMV8, Mk1 Golf
my brothers a fully qualified mechanic but he doesnt have the correct tools, which means hes never done on, he doesnt have the facilities and cant provide me with a gaurentee... therefor i wouldnt let him do it

  RS Clio 172 Cup
Even though my mechanic i use has been a family friend for over 20 years and has had his own garage for 15years, he charges me cheap labour and i trust him in every way in his work and is a very good mechanic, but i will be taking my Cup to NWPerformance for its belts.

Like people have said, for the sake of saving £50 or so, getting the belts done at the Pro's is the way to go.

Using a 'friend in the trade' for general repairs on your car because hes cheap is all well and good, but from what i can tell, the cambelt on these is the one job that can seriously f**k you up if its not done/not done right.
Its not as if youll have to do it again anytime soon (as long as you get it done right), and the cost is nowt compared to the cost of an engine rebuild (which is the risk you run not getting it done properly).

P.S. to anyone who thinks the general reaction to the OP is a bit over the top, try going on 306gti6.com..........

  Better than yours. C*nt.

For what it's worth, I'd go to Birchdown.

I've seen BTM pick up the pieces that 'some specialists' leave behind. Read into that what you will!

  Titanium 182
Nothing wrong with non gen parts, the ones birchdown use are the same as the ones Renault use anyway just not Renault branded.

if the tools he's getting are £60, it wont be right. the cheap ones are cheese

the tool itself isnt expensive tbh.

defo chancing it on a 04 plate.

lol @ feds pic. worse 1 ive seen other than snapped belts

Right i have to ask this

My mum has an N reg fiesta (16 years old approx)
never had belts done.... 50 k its done not alot i know

why hasnt heres snapped?

  Barge
No expert on Fiesta's but it could be possible it uses a chain rather than a rubber belt. Some manufacturers like BMW and Mercedes do, and a few more.

You amaze me tbh. Time and time again you said you had had it done and tbh I think a lot of us thought it was probably a lie at the time...(Iknow I did) You don't seem to be able to help your self lol.
Quick example in this thread..

"As for me "spending all my money on mods"

Lowering Springs - £10
Cliosport stickers - £8 total
Tow eye - Christmas present
Megane splitter - £3
Sound system - From previous car

so i dont think thats the issue.

Conveniently forgot the good few hundred you spent buying then fetching your cup spoiler then getting it sprayed....

I'm not sure it's worth anyone recommending a place to get your belts done because you will probably either not get them done or will go to a completely different and probably stupid place to what your told to do.:slap:

  Titanium 182
HAHAHAHA !

Tbf he doesn't deserve the car, seems like a ned that got lucky or is employed by daddy but who am I to judge what people drive, just hope his belts go and he requires a rebuild.

Then he will be f**king hard up on cash !

ps. I lol'd at the fiesta example, hard fail !

Dude, seriously. You had this arguement with everyone about the belts on your 1.6. If you dont have the know how and confidence to do it yourself, just spent the £400 and get them done right. A car isn't a buy and forget purchase that you can just throw bits on, it needs to be maintained. You wont have it for a few years if you dont sort it out because it'll be fucked.

  Titanium 182
Seriously mini don't even bother, he wont listen.

Should just be locked and stickied.

Then when his inevitable "My mate says he can rebuild my engine for £50 and a stella" thread is posted that can be stickied just underneath it.

Arn't a lot of the old Fiesta engines a push rod engine anyway, certainly the 1.3 Endura. Theres no saying your belts will snap. There are probably ph1 172's out there with origional belts, however they have a much higher chance of snapping due to them being over due.

Why buy a Renault Sport if you can't afford to keep it maintained. I had to pay out £550 on belts, service and engine mounts when I got mine but I knew that, and its part of owning a performance orientated car. If you don't like it buy a 1.0 Polo where you can get both belts, water pump and service done for about £250.

If there was a weekly top 10 CS Spaz chart I think he would top it on a regular basis!
