RS Focus v Clio 182

  182 ff with cup pack's
hi My Mate a just bought a mint condition RS Focus 22 tho miles for 14k pic's it up saturday.

Any way i will get to the point wot do u think my chance's are for the traffic light's gp the RS is standard and my 182 is running 170bhp at the wheels

any thought's?????

  cock mobile.
170 at the wheels?

What mods have you got to produce that?

Std vs Std the RS is much quicker above 60ish, not sure how yours would perform, I'd imagine the RS would defo have it at the top end.

its got panel filter de cat and miltek it would hammer me to 100 me thinks so wont be racing for pink slips lol

  Clio Cup/GSXR 600
Faster and handle better unless on a shite road surface as the rs are a handful on uneven ground. My mates got one and ive got a cup. Not much faster but not much is enough?

yep thats wot i was thinking russ think ive got a good inuff resaon to get tb's now lol

If the RS is standard it'll be a little faster, most noticeable top end. It certainly won't "destroy" you though.

Standard vs standard the focus will win in every department, with a blufin there will be no point in wasting your petrol old boy..... Seriously rapid!

Stock 0-100 according to letstorquebhp is c.16.5

Hardly seriously rapid, not standard? About the same as an R26 Meg?

Good point although that site is all fictional non are tested speeds its all worked out from power, weight, drivetrain etc.

Ive read other places that a 172 cup is c. 17odd secs 0-100 and the FRS being low 16/ high 15 in standard trim.

But on the road its not a massive difference.

^^I always thought the actual performance section was compiled from real world results. Perhaps not. Either way, standard for standard, all these hathces are close enough to make little difference on the road. I guess it's terms like 'destroyed' that cause confusion.

Stock, the RS is c. 168/ton. It will not be destrying any RS Clio in a drag race ;)

a lot of standard 172 cups have run mid 15's on the 1/4mile strips so th focus certainly wouldnt be whooping any rs clios arse. standard for standard they are pretty well matched

You will destroy him on an uneven road, as he will torque steer into a tree. Otherwise, RS should have the edge.

I'll have to dig out my old Evo mag with the Focus RS/WRX/Clio Cup/Cooper S test.

Focus pulled a 5.9 to 60 but can't remember any of the other figures :(

lol my friend had one and the torque steer was nowhere near as bad as people made out.

I have personal experience of 2 RS's and although each car is slightly different, I found it to be far too annoying for everyday driving. Great performance but I couldn't live with it. Clio suited much better. RS interior is comedy too! (off-subject, I know) Beast of a car though!

I wouldnt know! but the RS has a gay button start, the idea is fine, but you can still turn the ignition key into crank mode, its just not connected! how bin scav poo is that?? gazs old punto GT was as quick as an RS, i was sat in the RS as it sat alongside up a duel carriageway! quality little tool!

Give it a go thats how you'll be able to tell.

A car with 218bhp destroying a car with 182bhp which carries what 2/300 kgs less in weight??

I cant see that somehow.

I had a play with one with a system and chip over the weekend (just had the chip apparently) and although it pulled well didnt destroy us to speeds you wouldnt get sent to prison for!!!

Sure Dave (dk) will get his video out of him and an FRS in a foreign country if you ask him nicely. iirc the FRS went ahead after a high speed!!!

  Nippy white cup
We were on our way to Donington a few weeks back in my m8s std Golf Gti (mk5) and had a great blast with an RS. There were 4 in the Focus and 2 of us in the Golf and joining the dual carriageway to 130 ish there was nothing in it...we weren't gaining and the RS wasn't pulling away. Not sure what my m8s GTi is running as they are much better than book bhp (probably by a good 10-15 bhp better).

To compare he had a Edition 30 GTi one night and we went for a play with Rob (flaming Monkeys) totally std 172 Cup. 2 of us in the Golf and Rob on his own and there was very little in it. Obviously the golf would pull away eventually but it was very even low down....sometimes the power to weight makes a difference till giddy speeds

I had the first Focus RS in Belgium. 0-60 (standard) it does NOT destroy the 182. It is a very bad sprinter (torque). It was tuned upto 280 hp. A beast on motorway, but very hard spinning from 0-60. This car was not a good sprinter, so sold it. No regrets about it at all

lets b honest we are talkin about a car that costs around 8k more when new to a 172 cup!!! i know what i would rather hav and hav the spare 8k cash to spend on tuning mods!!! cant say i hav ever had a run in with an rs but it wouldn't bother me if one tryed it at all!!! its amazing jus how many more expensive cars the cup can ambarasse. i still say for the money u will b hard pushed to find a better hatch. <<< waits for the MK1 boys to put the boot in :)

The interior in the RS is maybe the worst I have ever seen in any car. It's all uneven and the colour scheme makes me want to call the 60 minute make-over team to destroy with an axe! Then, maybe it will look okay. Even Westwood could work his blastin'-off skillz on this effort.

As evo quoted: some are good, some are awful.

Ive had a go against a few of my mates who have FRS's in my old 182, all standard, i got beaten by some, i beat others (just), and one that i got whipped by :( so it all depends if your mate was lucky enough to get a good one.

Have a go with your mate, will be fun, if he mods it though... don't bother :)
