Joe's Ph2 172

How long should I wait before sanding the lacquer. I have 2000 and 2500 grit so probably best to use the latter. Also to polish I only have turtle wax and t-cut....that be okay?

Am also thinking on removing the rear wiper. Not sure though.

  172
Left the wiper. Mirrors look pimp!
For some reason i have a GoPro HD Hero 2 sat upstairs doing nothing so thought as it was a dry(ish) day i may as well make the most of it!

I cut most of it as it was mostly traffic in the built up areas (i won't break any limits no matter what in residential areas) Also cut out where some old dear pulled out straight in front of me and also a sideways entry into a roundabout lol. Tis all good. I know all the roads I go a little quick on like the back of my hand and the only way someone is getting hurt is if I have a mechanical failure.

Nothing much other than the exhaust has been annnoying me lately...possibly the heat shield doing the dreaded 4k rpm rattle.

The driving position has also been infuriating me so have been looking around for a drivers seat. Buckets I feel are overkill on a car that will live almost entirely on the road. So im thinking recliners. Trendlines are just a no. Im not spending the equivalent of what I could buy a decent house sofa for so......im thinking these may be up to the job.

Have emailed and will possibly like to try them first. They definately look good for the price! (£180)

I am selling my car in a few weeks so i am just putting it back to standard
i genuinely have found the seats to be good and think they offer a reasonable amount of support however i have only driven on the road in them so not sure what they would be like on track

Not sure they look enough support for.me but glws.

So im working on New Years Eve and im looking at car parts LOL

Looked at headlight washer blanks....feck off am I paying those prices! With mods I always use a strict cost vs gain ration  Will probably just get rubber washers..

Ordered a Fabia splitter

Now on the look out for a cup spoiler I may even buy the v6 replica spoiler from Italy. Undecided on what looks best. If I get the v6 I will probably spray it graphite grey to match the rest of the car.

Also considering spraying the wheels a light/medium grey as I think graphite will be a bit too dark and theres quite a lot of the car in that colour now..any ideas on colours for that?

Removed the spare wheel and tools and will be replacing with the spray stuff. For those that don't believe you can feel the difference...i went out for a drive and forgot that i had removed it and noticed the car felt a bit different! Realised why and wad rather pleased. Its weird it feels like the front turns in better now! Odd. But good! Then noticed the sound deadening sticky crap and think i may remove all the weight i can from the car without hurting it as a daily car. Im thinking some sound deadening, rear wiper, fogs and anything else i can get rid of. I've already removed rear headrests, engine cover and the passenger under seat tray thing. I love free performance lol

The exhaust has been doing my head in as of late. Whenever I have been accelerating hard and annoying knocking/vibration keeps occuring and I've been scratching my head trying to find the answer...

exhaust is fitted securely so I was thinking it might be a mount.

Then I had a look in the engine bay and may have found the culprit.

Looks like that little pipe (whatever it does) is touching the heatshield which im guessing must vibrate from the loud exhaust upon accleration. Quite why they put a heatshield under the manifold I dont know....to reflect heat back at the engine??

This is what my mirrors look like now :D

Guessing im going to have to heat up the stickers to get them off?

Light looks like a pain in the ass to mask up for painting too!

Its on and looks awesome imo

Im about 90% happy with it. One small area needs some more wet and dry and polish and can see a few swirls where I wet sanded it (2500grit)
But on the whole job is a good 'un!

The drivers side sits a bit higher up where it meets the glass though so may have to adjust it a tad....that brake light connector is so big.

While I had spray handy I deleted the rear wiper. It annoys me when I reverse and it turns itself on creating a nice clean area....and then all around it gets covered in crap which then goes over the boot.

Plus the Megane Trophy R doesn't have one :D

Till I do a permanent fix I just gloss blacked the cover. Will find a grommet for now.

I really like what you've done so far, I've just bought a 172 in the same colour and am at the point you where - deciding what to do, wanna be unique but not over the top. Nice car though mate.

Cheers bud. Yeah, im not trying to be unique or set new trends or anything. I just like things to be my way so I enjoy reading through other people's threads to get ideas on how they have improved their cars so I can take inspiration and get mine so its more to my liking. The dogbone mount, cup spoiler and splitter were one of the first things I picked up on on from looking at other people's cars and they do have a big effect...I've just been on the look out for a new style RS badge as they really make the back end look better too. Rip off brand new though!

At the end of the day I want something I can drive around in that I feel im at one with. Im not into massive power, turbo's and the like. Im more into lightweight, good brakes and decent suspension I can rely on to really push the car hard. This year will be testing time. Found out my new work is only 15 miles away from Snetterton so I should be spending a lot of time there getting the car how I want it and actually safely learning how it handles.

My favourite mod so far has to be the ktec exhaust. Sounds awesome! Im 31 (holy s**t that just sank in) and its not too loud or chavvy sounding and it goes with my whole "when something fails, buy a better version" ethos.

Yeah, I'm doing the same thing, been on here for hours looking for inspiration and giving it a tweak. I really like the site, people give their honest opinion and a lot of help where its needed. Granted, not all mods are going to be to everyone's tastes but I have a few ideas now

The ktec exhaust sounds awesome, really miss my old one. Used to blast through tunnels and the noise was amazing.
Good job on the spoiler , looks really well painted.

So I was driving down the A14 when...

The car started to feel odd and the battery warning light came on the dash. Assuming it was the French protesting as usual I carried on. Now some smoke appears behind me followed briefly by an engine light.

Immediately I pull over lift up the hood and the coolant is boiling away in its bottle! I panic and open the lid...

Look down to the alternator and the belt has come off! Not snapped....come off so I free it and its new looking and all intact.

For the last week or so the car has been making some odd noises and now I think of it....from around the front right engine bay area. I assumed it was to do with the new ktec stealth system.

Obviously not. The recovery etc is another story in itself but long snd short its at a garage opposite my work (RAF camp) what should I be expecting and how much am.i looking at?

If its to replace a belt or tensioners etc are there any specialist tools required?
