My 'almost' new car...

  Static Low
Most stupid thing he's ever read. She needs to go to the docs & shes been smoking crack.

What alot of crap that is

Yeh, I agree it could of been said better.

I think the point he's making is £3k for that conversion is alot of money, and that it could have probably been done for around half the price max.

O well :)

Sorry... I could of put it better!

I love a sleeper, but I just don't understand putting an engine into a car when renault done it for you!! Would of been better off buying a 1*2 and then having it sprayed whatever colour you wanted IMO.

I'm the same, it's not a slant on the girl just a discussion and opinion.

I know I couldn't spend that money on what was essentially a 1.2 clio.

That wouldn't really make sense either.

Spend £3k on a car she knows and loves and has spent a load of money on already
OR
Sell it and buy a car she knows nothing about it's background really and then spend £2k getting it resprayed a different colour

Both seem "daft" to the average punter but I know what I'd rather do!

Buy another car and have a different colour?

That's what I'd rather do lol.

looks great!

nice sleeper youve got there

alot of people dont understand everyones personal opinions, but thats why everyone had a different style. if there was no individuality the world would be a very boring place!

keep the cars exterior standard, you'll surprise a load of people :D

M

mini-valver

Hold up fella's.....

Shes spent 3k for a 80hp gain. How much does everyone spend on bodies, cams etc for circa 30hp?? I know I've spent a f**k load more than that on mine and I dont even have an engine ATM, lol.

there are far too many sensible people on here

that arguement can hold true to alot of the project threads

'why put a F4R in a valver'
'why put a VAG 1.8t in a clio when you could just buy a golf for cheaper'
why spend 3k on turbo conversion when you could buy a faster car out of the box for cheaper'

etc, etc.

i like the car! i like it even more 'cos it hasnt got the sport kit on it!

Isn't the valver engine heavier than the newer F4R?

May be your answer ;)

I think that what vikcy has done is awesome.

As mini valver says.. 80bhp gain for 3k. Not bad.

Vicky is obviously attatched to her car. I think its a great way to spend 3k.. considering most people would just waste that on trash and drink it away etc.. at least she can have something to show for it

The work is good and people understand that she whats to keep the car.

But what people are surprised by is the 3K price tag attached to it, most people that do engine transplants do them themselves so it costs a lot less.

I can understand why KTR charge that much to do the conversion and the work does look good, but 3K is a lot of money for a F4R engine.

If Vicky was able to do the conversion herself or knew someone that was able to help her, that 3K would have gone a lot further.

I just saw a bloke driving a Clio in your colour :p

I think it's good what you've done but absolutely mental to spend that sorta money. You've probs spent a good £4k at K-tec? Lets say your car is worth £2/3K...thats Trophy money. And buying the Trophy wouldnt be money down the drain! Anyway, this is what modifying is all about! Doing stuff that only you can justify ;)

Lol....just read through the latest replies and it's good to see everyone's opinions as I expected it all when I posted it up but FLOL @ being on crack.

As I have said before I thought about it alot before I went ahead with the conversion. The way I look at it, it's not a waste of money. Pretty much all of my money goes on the car :)o) as I prefer getting stuck into that than drinking etc. So it wasn't a question of how much it cost, I know that people can't see how it's justified but I couldn't be more chuffed with my decision.

Not only does it take an age to find a decent car to buy, even when you find one you can never truly know what kind of life it's had.

This car was known to me before I owned it and I'm certain that it was over serviced and it certainly has been since i've owned it. I've had the car almost a year and a half and it's already had more mods than I can remember. If I bought an RS then I'd be back to the start as far as mods go, so I'd be doing everything I've already done once again.

Not to mention that it was a worry free spend. I dropped the car off and when it was done I drove it straight home with a huge bhp increase amongst other things that I would have inevitably bought anyway because I can't help myself lol.

The car goes well, it looks well and it's certainly my secret weapon atm  (I plan to keep the non-sport look, even considering a stealth to replace the twin exhaust). I know exactly what I'm getting with it and anyone can go out and buy an RS.

Since when has spending money modifying a car been sensible?

3k on an 80% power increase is abit of a no brainer to me! lol

why spend so much on a cliosport if you only plan on ripping the seats, seat belts, interior etc out?

you end up spending £1500 more so you can have the sport bumpers and air conditioning!

at least you get to watch the value of the car youve just bought fall through the floor! lol

as vick said, cars a hobby, and hobbies cost money, i know ive spend more money on getting hangovers over the years,

Complete shite... All 3 of the above examples would be totally unique. (I had a 20vt lump in a 6n2 polo gti so i get the sleeper appeal).

What I don't get is this... £3k + The value of her car for an incomplete 182???

Fair play to you for doing it, it was your decision so who am i to question you!

not really complete shite.. all 3 involve spending a wedge on a certain speed car and making it quicker when you could just buy a faster car in the first place.. its already been said that it may be the only 172 engined car in this colour too so in a way unique.

anyway, cars can't please everyone and modifying them is not a sensible way to spend money, ever lol :)

Just need to update your profile now Vicky.

Forgot about that lol.

Stealth exhaust? :)

That's the plan! I couldn't decide between the stealth and A recessed exhaust but with the cars current spec it's all about the stealth. If anyone has one for sale PM :p

I wish it was just digits on a screen lol, I'm skint for a while because of it but would do it again without a doubt!

Cheers naith, you will indeed I'll be bringing it along to FCS.

Awesome! Is it still running the 182 style exhaust?

I had the system changed but kept the same backbox, now I'm considering swapping it for a stealth :)

Dont go stealth. I always think if you have stealth everyone just thinks your exhaust has a hole in whereas if they can see an exhuast they will understand why it sounds amazin. Just my opinion.

Anyway, wish i had the cash to drop a 2ltr in mine, but i dont so i got to settle for buying a RS.

  AMV8, Mk1 Golf
so when you say you did the conversion.. you didnt.. you paid someone else to do it lol

i was getting excited then to think there was another girl who could actually build a car lol

looks good tho...
hourses for corses n all that :D

Did say at the beginning of the thread somewhere that ktec did the work. I have neither the time or space to have carried it out at home, it was hassle free to give it to them and be done with it.

Sorry to disappoint lol, would love to though i've been planning on getting myself a little project car to rebuild and restore but we'll see how things go.

  Turbos.
I personally wouldn't call it a sleeper. For Joe Public, a standard 172 is a sleeper, but a lowered Clio certainly isn't.

However silly, people have personal attachments to their cars so i can't call it a wrong decision. It is a lot of money though. I would rather have just sprayed a second hand 172 in green.

  2=clio 200
To be honest 3 grand isnt that much. I have spent that amount on a laptop or a good holiday. Or a few sets of tires on a couple of track days.

The car is unique. Which is why it is interesting. Thumbs up. Passion is not about materialism. ^^
