Wrong Fuses causing Dead Engine!

  TrackCar & F30 330d
Hia guys & girls,

So what i want to know is what componet does the yellow 5amp fues look after?

I wander if the component has been fried as the 5amp fues was changed to a 15amp fues by someone (not me).

So if there was a surge from me stalling the car and 10 amps went through, then the component would be fully b*ggered as the 15amp fues would have said it was ok and not gone pop.

As you can see from the first picture the 5amp fues is in yellow and from the second picture the fues in now the blue 15amp fues.

I dont have my manual its at home down south which is why i can look myself.

Any help would be appriciated

Thanks

Chris :)

High mate im having probs with mine at the mo too. Ive been looking in to the fuses and relays.

when i turn the ignition on i get a whine in the engine bay, like a solenoid or something priming. Take that 5amp fuse out and it stops.

It must be 5 amps for a reason so id say what ever is in that part of the circuit could be FUBAR. You could do with a wiring diagram to trace what parts that line goes through.

Noticed you have a fuse missing in the orange space, mine has a 60amp there i wasnt sure how much i needed but gave it 60a as it was all i had..

Wouldnt it tell me what the fuse is for in the manual? Could somebody look for me please.

Does anybody have anymore fuses where i dont?

I'm not 100% but I had a similar issue with mine with the same symptoms as you are having but it was a 20/30 amp fuse that was causing the hassle.

I traced it back to a leak getting into the brake light connection on the spoiler and would happen everytime I pressed the brakes. Everything would cut out completely

I'd be checking the relays now to be honest if you think it might be the fuse

Edit: i'll go check my fuse box now

Ok so when your car cut out completely could you not even lock you doors or get any lights on the dash?

Josh i havnt been back out yet, but i think this fuses thing may be the problem i have.

Just trying to find out what they all protect lol

30amp i think, it doesnt matter if they only need 10amp, 20-30 will be fine,

iv had a scan on the manual i have on the comp and it doesnt say what they do sorry, i could send it to you if you wish so you can have a look sometime.

I dont have the middle small green one or the bottom left big fuse in my fusebox and everything is fine. Always has been

Strange, thats what Trev_M showed me on a 172 he was working on when i had problems, so i slotted them in,

chris, i will take a picture of mine tomorrow and text it too u.

I think its something to do with the battery relocation, where you put it through the bulk head, did you put a grommet in?

Now because i used to have the clio slammed i had to remove some of the arch liners.

SO i wander if some water has come in and driped on the electrics bits to the bottlom left of the picture?

Could be it?!

Unfortunatly i am up in huddersfield.

If your free and fancy doing something they your more than welcome to come up and have a look. i have a sofa bed and i can supply you with bacon sandwiches lol.

I just dont know where to start atm. Could be so many electircal bits :(

Thats almost 4 hours away

Thanks for the offer mate, i cant this week!

Plan of action:

1.Try Jumping from connections under the bonnet
2.Re-check all fuses, use a multimeter and do a continuity check on them. :)

You had anyluck atall today fella?

if it makes you happy, mines only turns over and no lights come on :( so i think iv got the same issue, i had mine on stands and changed through 1st 2nd 3rd and engine died on sunday, but though it was dead battery so tried today and no lights etc.. so i shall investigate tommorow..

Btw, you think it could be a Tdc sensor thats faulty thats causing it not to fire?

I have had to do Uni work all day so the car has just been sat with no love.

Have you tried grounding the battery to some exposed metal under the engine bay with a jump lead. Just to check you have a good ground, was a problem on my old clio, just bought some new straps and fitted them.

Didn't ring the RAC in the end, checked all the fuses and they were fine, then friend of mine sugested changing the battery terminals, as the standards ones aren't the best design and he had a similar problem on an escort he had, so I borrowed some off my dads car (not that he knows yet) and sure enough one of them was knackered and charged the battery up and worked straight away first time. Maybe be worth a try on yours aswell mate.
