Worn Piston Rings

  Atlantis Blue 1.2 Corsa B
any idea how much of a job this is to sort, iv bin told this might be why my car like consuming oil........

matt

Might be one of a few reasons, engine out, sump off, crank and pistons out, new piston rings.

While engine is out may as well so stuff like crank shaft oil seals, head gasket, watrer pump, cam belt etc

Big job, in most cases its more economical to get a new engine, scrappys etc.

Worth noting that renault quote 1 ltr of oil per 1000 miles as 'normal'
I noticed that, any ideas why Renaults seem to batter oil, in comparison to other makes?

Depends, if you can do teh wprk yourself you will have a basically new engine if you strip it and overhaul it, i'd favour that over getting one from a scrappies

i'd overhaul it tbh....engine from the scrappy may be just as bad and you could go through the engine swap for no reason then have to pull it all out again to put it right.

what was the compression ??
same on all bores??
did you put some oil into the bores and re read the readings?
this will show if the leak is valves or rings
