Who's caged thread



How many of you have roll cages in your car (half or full) and is your car purly track or is it also used on road? Pics, prices and spec of the cage's would be good as well if possible.

Just weighing up my options on which one to go for, bolt or weld, half or full, custom or branded? I know it should be full but its a bloody lot of money for a car worth £1500, but then there's no price on safety.

Not 100% complete yet but I'm having a full custom cage made to my own spec by an awesome guy at my dad's work. Made from surplus material so its almost entirely free, just one or two lengths of bar I'd had to buy myself. Fully welded but purely a track car.

If it's a daily definitely look at getting either a rear cage or one with low/removable door bars because they'll be a huge pain day to day. If its track, just go balls-out and get it welded :smile:

Full SD bolt in for me too, ran on road for a few months until mot expired, now track only. I found it fine buy the mrs wasn't so keen, although she loves going out on track with it?!

All the above look great. Was gonna spend £5k on mods to get it fully track prepared (properly) then stupidity looked at Westfield's and can't believe what you can get for £5-7k... decisions, decisions.

.....and you'll end up spending more on the Westfield lol. You're spoilt for choice with that budget, but half the fun for me was buying a standard car and modding it then feeling the benefits, you don't need to do it all in one go then track it, I loved doing it in stages :)

I'd have to agree with @MarkX there, I've been building mine bit by bit and enjoying it on track at regular intervals and it's great. Spec wise my cage is a 9 point bolt in now, has the extra b pillar mounts and a tunnel brace, ordered it from one of Mark Fish's group buys and fitted by a local specialist (only bit I haven't done myself). I know the safety devices cages aren't the cheapest but the fact that they have a lot of military contracts says to me that they're up there with the best, and I kinda like being in one piece too :wink:

Also agree with the above, half the fun is in building the car. You gain a good bond with the car when youve spent hours upon hours on the nitty gritty bits.

Also a good feeling when you look back at what you've achieved :)
