And I know everybody has their opinion but its getting to be a bit off this comes up so often and their are so many people on here..........a CLIO forum............... who are prepared to run the Vee down at every oportunity..........IMHO ofcourse ............actually Ill change that to this

Id have one. I couldnt give two sh*ts if you can get a scooby for the same money. I see a thousand scoobies a day. Ive never seen a V6 on the road.

V6 is an instant classic and will be remebered in many years time. I wouldnt spend a penny on any audi full stop. Their overrated nasty cars with rubbish gearboxes, rubbish power delivery, dead brakes and steering. If you brought one its obvious your going to be bigging it up because you have to sell it on. New rs4 and rs6 will be pants weighing in over 1600kgs for the rs4 and no doubt 1900kgs for the rs6 plus those crappy gearboxes that dont change to the gear you want and an engine placement equivalent to a 911 in reverse gear. The words "sports car" and "audi" do not go together.

Id definitely consider getting a Vee because i dont feel that there is a requirement for 2 full sized 5 seater cars in any family of mine. by the time i have enough money to buy one however itll be old (still got 4 years until im out of uni and working). and by then id probably have a company car allowance meaning that i could buy something like a boxster as ive always loved roadsters and porsches which is i suppose like a Vee with more power and wrapped up in bubblewrap so that you cant feel anything.

ive only seen 1 vee so far, and that was enough for me to say yep id have one, so the reports on its handling are not so good, but then Clarkson and Stig are no slouch behind the wheel of any car, and if they have to push it to make it look dodgy it cant be that bad.
So yes again id have one Just need to raise the cash now though

I spent £25k on a mk1 v6 because when I saw one in a magazine and then on Top Gear I knew I wouldnt be happy until Id owned one. It also helped I had the money lying around. I test drove or was driven in every equivalent vehicle (except mitsubishi evo which looks pooh IMHO) and NONE of them got me excited as the v6 EXCEPT a Porsche 993 carrera4 (which I couldnt afford at the time).

Yes there are times I regret having spent that amount of money on the car when I couldve saved longer and bought the porsche but these regrets are NEVER when Im driving it.

I wouldnt own any other Clio except a Williams or the MAXI Rally jobby. Sorry non-v6 Clio owners.

I wonder in 10 years time, which V6 will be remembered as the classic, the mk1 or the mk2?

Naturally the mk2 is in favour at the moment, because of its current looks, improved handling and better build, etc.

....but when the game has moved on (like it did from the Renault 5 Turbo) and both of them look dated, and the handling of both is near enough the same compared to any modern car - will the mk1 be the V6?

(btw, Im not biased, I too prefer the mk2 at the moment!)

How many people do you think would think the 182 was such an amzing car to drive? Most wouldnt believe you when you gushed about it, and basically theyd probably think you were over rating it.

Considering 98% of us here probably havent driven a V6, how can it be over rated? If you aint driven one then you just dont know. Theres magic to the 182/172 and they punch way above their weight, so maybe theres some magic in the V6 that you can only feel if you drive one? Certainly, all the V6 owners seem to think its a fantastic car.

Would I buy one? Dunno. Id certainly test drive one if it was in my price bracket. Only my feelings after the test drive would answer the question of the thread. So unless youve driven one I really dont see how you can answer the question.

If I won £30k on the lottery I would buy one until I could no longer afford to run it. Absolutely without doubt the only car more expensive than a Megane 225 that I would ever buy.

Im quite odd when it comes to cars though, give me a million and I could promise you that I would never buy anything "above" a V6. Just cant see the point, I get frustrated enough driving around in my 1.2 due to the incredibly slow pace of the majority of roads and drivers, really cant see how anything 300BHP+ could ever be driven as required on todays roads.

But yes, a V6 for me without doubt. Just something about it that I cant explain, it has the x-factor. Just a wonderfully insane car that is virtually unseen on the roads, spotted 4 in about 4 years on my travels, Ive seen more Ferraris on the road!

When I was 19 (in 1991) I saw they brought out the original big-turbo Escort Cosworth, and vowed that one day I would own one of them. You could take your ferraris, lambos, porsches, whatever, Id choose the Escort anyday

When I was 26 (1997) I was lucky enough to live my dream. I never thought another car would ever really replace it (except maybe another Escort Cosworth - and a small turbo version duly followed in due course, but always failed to match the excitement of the original big turbo version).

In 1998 I saw Auto Express, with the Clio V6 on the front cover. It started all over again. The Escort had to go, and my name was number 326 in line for a mk1 Vee.

Sadly I broke up with my then missus, which cost me a fortune, and my order was cancelled. 7 LONG YEARS later, I am finally to own a mk1 vee - am picking it up tomorrow... and I wouldnt swap it for anything, prob not even a mk2 vee, cos its not the classic original.

Same with the Williams, I was the proud owner of a Williams 1 (no303), fine 2s and 3s had more kit, but the 1 was still the original, and the one to have.

What I would say, is that looking how quickly the interior wears and gets grubby on most of the mk1s Ive seen, Im glad I didnt pay £26k for a new one, cos Id probably be very dissapointed with the low rent interior, wear & tear, coil pack problems, rusty door bolts, etc.

But Im not paying £26k, Im paying £11k, and for me, for now, its worth EVERY PENNY!

Yes your Evos & Scoobys are quicker, handle better, are cheaper to run & maintain, but look at them - theyre rep-mobiles, and how often do you see the salesmen driving up and down the motorways at 90-100 mph doing the meeting runs.

These are not real drivers, just motorway-men. Put them on a twisty A or B road in their WRXs and they havent got a clue. Most people I know lump all drivers of those cars in that category. They look at the company car list, tick the fastest box, and drive it til they have to change it. In that time they probably dont even know everything about what their car does!

People who buy V6s CHOOSE to buy them. They make a special case of finding this car, and you NEVER see them. The people who buy these cars, (also escort & 3-door sierra cosworths, lotus carltons) have my upmost respect, and are probably very good drivers, who know a thing or two about their car.

This is just my humble opinion, but maybe gives some insight into why I for one am buying a Vee!

I think its naive to presume a Scobby/Evo owner cant drive for sh*t based on the car they chose. In fact I think with that opinion youre likely to end up with egg on your face sooner or later. Other than that, your post makes all kinds of sense

Basically, its a slightly illogical lust decision. It was the same with me and the Williams: my teenage bedroom walls were covered with pics of the Escort Cosworth, Delta Integrale...and particularly the Williams. I was fortunate enough one day to own No.123 of the first edition.

It was love at first sight with the V6 Clio and I. Sadly, it was love at first sight with me and my other half as well - so a 172 Ph2 is a good compromise of cost and practicality for the time being!! She was driving the other day behind a Ph2 V6 in her 1.2 and I was drooling over the V6 from the passenger seat - she just said how silly it looked! Doh!

So, Im not surewhether a V6 will be possible for me, because it would be a very selfish decision of where to put my money in light of things like sofas, holidays, kitchens etc. But I definitely want one!

My hubby said that if I had a V6, I would never be able to leave it parked anywhere as I am bad enough looking for a safe parking space for my 172 and any passengers I have always torment me because of my parking antics!! It pays off though, because there isnt a mark on my car either outside or inside and to be honest, I might as well get a two-seater V6 because nobody has ever sat on my back seats so I only need two seats! I think that if I got one, I would like a silver or blue Mk 1 rather than the newer Mk 2 V6.

Sooooooo 137699 you recon that Evos and Scoobys are CHEAPER to run than a V6 eh.................well I recon youre in for a pleasant surprise..................put it this way my car will be 4years old in September and has been serviced 3 times (all receipts posted), has had the oil changed every 6months and the total cost so far for 3 services and 7 oil changes is less than £700 although the previous owner did pay Reno £1000 for 4 Michelin tyres...................even that only brings the total cost to £1700 which for 4years running of a car like the Vee is alright yeah

i serviced mine at 10k and 20 k...changed the plugs at 20 although they did not need it. changed them cos i fitted Nos...

3rd set of rear tyres....still on 1st set of fronts.

changed rear pads at 12k...fronts still ok...

running costs are ok in my book...

my mate had a 12k srvice on his porsche cost him 800 quid...

Been there done the Scooby x2 and Evo route over the last 8 years. The mkII v6 now hits all the right buttons. A REAL drivers car, with a multi cylinder engine and RWD. Something youll have to learn and respect to get the most out of it. Almost anyone can jump in a rally rep and hoon about, and we see 100s everyday, now being adopted by the chav brigade.

Yes the V6 is expensive new, but a baragain 2nd hand at circa £20k.

And if anyone thinks owning either an Evo or Scooby is cheap, you are in for a rude awakening. Servicng at worst is every 3500 miles at £285 a shot or every 6000 miles at best.

Just adding my name to the list of people who would buy a V6. Fantastic car. And thats why I bought one.

However............Mine goes tomorrow. P/Xd for a 911 (996 C4S). If I could justify it Id keep the V6 as well, but the Porsche does everything the Clio does, and its got 4 seats, rear engine and 4 wheel drive.

Amazing cars though, everybody should have a V6 once in there life. Then get a 911

Ive wanted one for as long as I can remember. Did the 2003 Gumball in a 4S Cabby, a present from the in-laws. That just made me want one even more.

Theres a Porsche specialist Id heard good things about so went to see him. He saw the Clio was mint, low miles (3000) and he already has a Mk1 in his collection and he wanted a Mk2 as well.

Gave me a great price for the V6 as well.

Ill miss the V6 badly, but owning a 911 has been a life long dream for me.

One things for sure in my mind though, Im very much a lover of small-cars, I would probably choose the V6 over a scooby/evo because theyre just too big for my liking. Also agree with many other comments, its not often you see a V6 about and when you do... well I love it!
