What is your favourite RenaultSport model?

For me, Im stuck between a Mk1 16v/Williams and the Ph1 172 - When we also had a LY 182 FF with cup packs, I always found myself comparing it to my Ph1, and although i like the cup suspension, I found my Ph1 to be more 'fun' - Probably a combination of the smaller wheels and cable throttle.

The Mk1's are really a lot of fun - more raw again than compared to the Mk2's, and 'feel' faster for it. Of course now they are starting to get a bit long in the tooth, and for a mk1 to be compared performance wise to newer machinery it needs to have some modifications carried out - the Williams is still quickish, but need at least a higher rev limit to make use of the power (Always found myself headbutting the standard limiter at 6400rpm)

So thats where im stuck - the Williams is more raw, is a little quicker (comparing lightly modified cars), and gets lots of attention from people who think more of it that a funny old Clio with gold wheels lol, but the Ph1 is the happy comprimise between speed, cost, handling and comfort, which IMO is what the RS Clio has always been about.


So, what is your favourite model then guys and gals, and why?

Is it the V6 for looks/sound?

Ph2 182 for the newer car compared to the other mk2's?

197/200?

Or the many Megane's?

Williams for me too Russ as you have mentioned they are just so much more raw to drive than a mk2, they literally feel like your driving a go kart.

I love the look of the 200s in racing blue with black details, But TBH i'd love a good Mk1

As much fun the Mk.1 is to drive, it's not as usable day-to-day as a Mk.2. Either a Mk.2 172 with CC e.t.c. or a 182 for me.

1 - R5 Turbo - in blue, red or black (Gotta LOVE the outrageous styling of those seats before they were dropped for the T2)

Always gonna be a valver for me, especially after I had a go in a completely standard 1 not too long ago. I gave it a proper thrashing & it put a bigger smile on my face than any other RS clio I've driven.
It almost made me feel a bit sad that my valver, despite the money & effort I've put into the suspension etc, isn't as vastly superior as I'd have thought to a completely standard, unmolested 20 year old valver :dapprove:

For the sheer specialness of it, an acid yellow vee.

As a usable, all round car, the trophy if it wasn't such a s**t colour, so a ff RB 182 completely std would probably be my choice.

Funnily enough, i'm currently driving a Cup packed 182 daily and I kid you not, it is 10 times the car when you compare it to ones that have been lowered. Factory suspension s***s all over the modified stuff.

Mine is probs a later V6 or R27. I dont know too much about 200 but it would probs be one of those if i knew much about them.

Valvers & Williams both built at the factory in Dieppe, willy 3's & later valvers rot the worst because they couldn't be arsed to seal them up properly as they were busier tooling up to build the 172 in the same factory

It was Renaultsport that made the changes to the valver to create the williams to use it in rallying
