Typical 172 cup engine sound?

Do clio 172 cup's typically sound a little 'rough'? Not like the noise in the videos for a dephaser pulley on it's way out. Sound slightly like a diesel rather than really quiet and smooth?

I find they are quite tappety.

But you need to define what you class as 'rough'

It's not exactly the most technically advanced lump but I really like it. Especially as I don't have a modified exhaust and I mostly get engine noise.

A good track day on 98+ fuel usually sorts them out. Always feel very free and smooth on the drive home.
