timing belts ?

  clio 3 rs 200
hi all, anyway of knowing if these have been done..?,i got a folder full of receipts for stuff done to the car, some that has obviously been taken off etc at some time, and although it has obviously been owned by people that have cared for it i cant find a receipt for the belts being done..so my question is is there a way of telling or otherwise i will have to get it done when ive got the dosh.

cheers cliff....

my guess is if you haven't a receipt showing the belts done then they need doing what years the car

Yep. I will have to look into who is the nearest affordable garage. .I could do without the expense but it's got to be done. .
I wouldn't be going nearest or most affordable mate. It has to go to a proper specialist. If you haven't heard the horror stories get searching

  clio 3 rs 200
That's what I meant. .The nearest specialist. .but not renault. .is like a 6th of the value of the car with them. .!,its not so bad if someone can do it in a day then I can just hang around wherever its being done for a day..

Ah good. You'll be looking to change the dephaser too and I'd go for a new waterpump without a seconds hesitation. You're looking 650 750 from a specialist probably. Well worth doing though!

Does the dephaser come with the kit or just the dephaser belt..?..its just while looking at getting the belts changed some say dephaser and some day dephaser belt and some say waterpump too..It makes sense to have it all done..

Whats the mileage on it?

Also I thought I remember Mick saying the belt on a 200 isn't as bad as the previous Clios, the ECU is that much better at compensating for the problems that you won't notice it being out??
or was he talking about another engine?

I'd just stick a new timing belt kit on it personally, changing the dephaser and water pump on a 6 year old sub 60k motor seems like overkill to me.

This old chestnut. A decent garage will be able to do it no prob.
Whether they are a back street garage or a 'specialist'. There's a hell of a lot of so called specialist I thankfully never have nor never will let near a car of mine.

De phaser isn't an issue on the MK3 like the MK2. I take it you weren't aware the belts were due when you bought it ?

If you have some receipts for around the 5 year service and it's not obvious what's been do then it may be worth a phone call.

Hey everyone, recently bought a 2011 Clio Rs200 it's currently got 20000miles on the clock and its just about 5 years old is it time for the timing belt change or would you wait?

Chances are the manual probably says it's time for a belt change.

You could probably get away without doing it for a while, but then doing maintenance on schedule is the sort of thing that looks good to the next buyer.

Clio 200 has a 6 year interval, so I'd be leaving it until next year personally.

Hey guys so got a quote from halfords to do the timing belt they quoted me £209 which is rather cheap compared to other quotes, would you let them work on your car?

  Renault Clio Rs200
:smile:Ha yeah apparently they do it and coz it's half the price for other quotes im forced to consider it,I don't know whether to save up and take it to ktec

Have you confirmed exactly what the 'cambelt' change includes ?
Chances are its not what your are thinking. Probably just an auxilary belt change or something :tongueout:
Plus, if they cant price the job up right...

  Renault Clio Rs200
Yeah it's a quote to do the timing belt replacement and it apparently includes all parts just received a quote from a garage for £403

RenTec in Scotland told me that 90% of the Clio's they do have either advanced or retarded timing from it being done incorrectly.

Buy cheap, buy twice!

I received a call from a worried halfords customer about 6 months ago, he wanted advice or reasons as to why halfords were charging him for head removal, gasket and 16 valves after he took his car in for a turbo replacement. I honestly don't know how they managed to screw the timing by changing the turbo, but they were trying to brush it off as normal procedure when a turbo starts passing oil and it must have bent a valve that way.

I feel sorry for customers that don't honestly understand how engines work as it's so easy for these people to fleece them out of money.

It genuinely annoys and frustrates me, there has been literally thousands of times over the years I could have charged basically whatever I felt like to cure a simple 2 minute problem but my problem is that I have a conscience!.
