Third Time Lucky; Trophy #41 - UPDATED - KONIs fitted...

Re: Third Time Lucky; Trophy #41 - UPDATE - Yozzasport has gone...

Thats what I like to see pikey motorsport at work :)

You've got me tempted with xenons now!

Re: Third Time Lucky; Trophy #41 - UPDATE - Yozzasport has gone...

Yes please Rhys, just whenever we're all out again if you remember!

Re: Third Time Lucky; Trophy #41 - UPDATE - Yozzasport has gone...

That steering wheel looks amazing great addition.

I really like the lutècia badge i wanted one myself but it just looks odd now with the new style RS badge imo.

My black insert ones are in the for sale section ;)

Cheers Craig.

Gave it a quick clean today and took a couple of pictures. I really need to upgrade my phone for a better camera, but the 3GS just won't die!

Milltek sounds a touch louder and deeper now. It's blowing at the decat to centre section join so I'll be fitting the Milltek decat which is sleeved to sort that out.

Car looks mint, credit to you :) I've got a Miltek on my 182 and they are lovelly exhausts, not to loud either and sound really nice from outside the car :)

You said you've fitted new xenons? What's the retail on them if you don't mind me asking? Always see them selling second hand for £150-250!

Re: Third Time Lucky; Trophy #41 - UPDATE - Yozzasport has gone...

Cheers Lewis I appreciate it :) is yours decatted?

The Xenons I got off another member. I had a set brand new on my 1.2 which I got properly cheap, someone got them 'dodgy' from Renault for his car and then decided he didn't want to use them so he just wanted rid. This set were bought off another member on here who bought them then sold his car so they were left in storage, unused for a couple of years as he didn't put any of his parts up for sale. They were just as they left the factory!

I hear buying the parts from Renault is very expensive though...

New headlights from renault last time I checked were circa £250+ each

Exhaust need lined up properly x

Re: Third Time Lucky; Trophy #41 - UPDATE - Yozzasport has gone...

They'll get done when I fit the Milltek decat, just need to borrow Rhys' lambda removal socket as mine is firmly in place!

Yes it is, sleeved decat's are very good, don't know i'll do when the MOT is due tho lol!

Ah i see, you got lucky then ;) Just saw that post about what they are new! Ouch! Think i better try refurbing mine again lol, every time i do it they come up cloudy :/

Re: Third Time Lucky; Trophy #41 - UPDATE - Yozzasport has gone...

That's partly the reason I wanted a Milltek, I love the sound and you get a sleeved decat with it. Managed to get the decat off here cheap (brand new!) so that was a bonus!

MOT's aren't a problem ;) I was thinking of getting the cat modded if I ever wanted it back on to work with the sleeved fitment of the centre section so that it wouldn't blow. I've no idea why Renault designed the exhaust fittings the way they did but the cat-to-centre section join is ridiculous.

What a b*****d it was to get off!

8301230530_e41cc65899_b.jpg

Still, it was off. Got the Milltek decat fitted but alas, the alignment went off.

Here is a comparison shot of the Scorpion decat which is the same as the standard cat length/fitment and the Milltek sleeved decat:

8300183129_e9deeaf3dd_b.jpg

It's a fair bit longer, so I don't think that'll be blowing any time soon :approve:

Sounds brilliant. Got the Mrs to take a couple of videos on the way back from work today.

I figured out by accident that I can make it do a little pop when I lift off which put a massive smile on my face every time it happened, it can almost be heard in the video below but the camera doesn't capture it properly:

...and a quick video of the induction roar from the PH1 airbox.

The exhaust sounds completely different in the car, more like the standard note but deeper and a bit louder. The main thing is it's a quiet noise, but still a lovely note. I'm chuffed to bits with the Milltek, definitely one of the best purchases I've made.

I'll post some more photos of the alignment etc. once it's light again.

Sound ace with the induction. How come you got rid of the xenons?

What hangers have you used? I've recently fitted a miltek and it's killed the stock units and I can't get it to sit right!

Re: Third Time Lucky; Trophy #41 - UPDATE - Yozzasport has gone...

It's still on the original hangers but I've zip-tied a load of sockets from an old set in there to help prop up the rubber bits! You can get it sitting perfectly by doing that surprisingly.

Re: Third Time Lucky; Trophy #41 - UPDATE - Yozzasport has gone...

I've not updated this for ages, but then I've not really done anything to it. Just been driving it.

As I'd been using it for work more towards the start of the year I started losing passion for modifying it and changing things. It became just a daily driver and I was hardly using it in my spare time, let alone attending any meets or get-togethers.

However my mate (W17GLE off here) showed me his supercharged MX5 that he'd tinkered with and it made me catch the modifying bug again.

We went for a drive and ended up in Southport and Formby before heading back. Took a couple of quick photos.

The MX5 is awesome btw.

Not much else has been happening really.

I took the xenons off in favour of the standard headlight units as I prefer the cleaner look when they're switched off:

Had a nice bit of beading (which has now gone, it needs a polish ready for summer!):

The yellow fogs were removed to add to the 'clean' standardish look:

529326_10151586727204459_961654681_n.jpg

...and my caliper failed.

8544017829_9588e8066c_b.jpg

8544019505_a2dc5cf1a4_b.jpg

Figured out it was fairly bad as the piston was seized and the brakes were stuck on on the front N/S.

Ended up purchasing some newly refurbed calipers off here, just one thing though... they were bright yellow :dead:

Got them fitted anyway just so I could carry on driving the car.

8265_10151586683169459_402128929_n.jpg

However, I only managed to fit one side. The other side's Goodridge brake hose was stuck in and the nut started rounding off.

Instead of pissing about I just bought another set:

After this, my tin of Hammerite arrived :)

(Bit crude on the front, it's difficult whilst they're still fitted! The second coat covered the yellow though)

As you may or may not have noticed in those photos of the rears, my rear Sachs shocks have seen their prime a long time ago:

8626558520_eb64b8ae30_b.jpg

I've just ordered a brand new set of Koni adjustables to replace them. They came with a lifetime warranty from Larkspeed so will be good for as long as I keep the car which is a great peace of mind.

Finally, I ordered a custom gearstick gaiter to match my steering wheel. I work for a bus company so took it into work and asked the guy who trims the seats to give me a hand attatching it to the plastic surround. Staple airgun sorted it!

8625457375_accc63b0fc_b.jpg

...and a quick photo of it fitted. I'll get some better ones another time showing the steering wheel too.

That brings us up to date. Sorry if you don't like photos but when I'm reading other project threads they are usually all that I look at so the more the better.

Here's a final exterior shot from the Chester meet courtesy of Niall97 on here :)

I'm hoping to keep on top of the thread now so watch this space.

They will sell ;) I think I paid a bit too much for them tbh but they were brand new. I don't miss them though... I think because the Trophy didn't come with them and I'm trying to keep some bits original.

I fitted Osram Nightbreaker+ bulbs too - they are brilliant for halogens.

Looks great Jamie, I do have a soft spot for a nice tidy trophy.
Mine is far from tidy ;) it's lived on a track it's entire life. BUT! It wouldn't be right for me to have an immaculate car as I'd feel the need to keep it that way. This one gets whipped and loves it.

I liked the yellow
If the wheels were another colour then maybe... but yellow and gold :dead:

Looks nice! What's on the cards for the future :)?
No idea what the future holds! Hoping I can get another decent insurance quote when it's due in June (on my birthday :dapprove:) and then take it from there. Hoping to do some trackdays in it with the new suspension setup as I still feel I've not had a proper chance to fully whip it's arse even though I've been to the 'ring in it twice!

I liked the yellow fogs :(

You need to boost it next.
I did but I do get bored easily. Boosting will unfortunately never be on the cards as I feel it's got enough power to match the handling as it is. It's all about maintaining speed on track/around corners rather than straight line b00st. I'd plonk a 225 in though if it was an easy swap like on the 197s.

Looks great :) Let me know how the konis are please.
Cheers :) will do, I'll report back here once they arrive which will hopefully be soon as these rears at the moment are as stiff as anything.

How are the front dampers holding up mate? I want mine doing them by cornering force but can't have the car off the road for weeks on end

Re: Third Time Lucky; Trophy #41 - UPDATED (finally)

Spot on mate. I bought some 182 Cup dampers cheap whilst they were being done. I've still got them but not sure what condition they are in tbh, they're just sat in the garage.

I dropped them off and picked them up from Cornering Force though and would definitely recommend Simon, he certainly knows what he's doing and is passionate about his work.

Adjusted to half way for now. I'm going to use trial and error to get what I think is the perfect road setup so I've left the adjusting tool in the glovebox for when I find a decent roundabout ;) I set the front Sachs to the factory standard the other day, I'm not sure what they were set to before I adjusted them but it's made the world of difference (22 clicks from the bottom for those wondering).

There are no other photos for now as once I'd fitted the dampers I went straight onto trying to diagnose a random misfire that only appeared yesterday.

Had all the injectors off, HT leads out and was ready to give up. I tried swapping two of the HT leads around and the problem seemed to have disappeared with no misfire. I have a 4am start tomorrow morning though so I'm hoping it'll stay that way!

Regardless, I'm ordering new NGK spark plugs and OEM HT leads for peace of mind. I think the plugs were last changed at 48k (2009) and it's now on 82k so they've not done too badly.

I'll get some better photos of the dampers and report back how they are once I've took it out for a run. For now though, there's no loud knocking/banging noise from the rear and it also looks lower which I'm pleased with! I know shocks don't lower a car but it has definitely come down for whatever reason, probably because the Sachs were knackered.
