I'm still going to get them done mate. :) When I kept on top of them they stayed in pretty good condition (I used some spray on wax stuff, I can't remember what exactly though). I know they'll rust-up again but I don't mind paying the relatively small(ish) amount extra to get them cleaned and coated.

Mine looked equally as bad as yours Andy (if not worse) and came back from BG like new...

They look superb mate, thanks for posting up. I'm packaging them up this evening and will be sending them off asap. Sadly the bad weather has hit so I'm not sure whether or not a courier will be able to collect them any time soon or whether or not I can get to the local post office!

Keep hold of them until the weather clears. The last thing you want is them going missing.

Use Corrosion Block on them when you get them back from being refurbished.

They will stay like new if you top it up every 6-12 months.

Nice one, mate - thanks for the recommendation and link. Much appreciated! :)

I don't think I've got much choice buddy. A 'red weather warning' is in effect here now and the conditions are awful. There's no traffic coming up/down this way for a while (unless it's tracked or a very capable 4x4). I'm not even sure the Type-R would get off the driveway to get to the post office (or, indeed, a courier get through to pick up the items). I can wait... :)

March 2018 - Update #1

I couldn't resist posting up this image (courtesy of BenG - thanks Ben!)

20180301_SachsGroupBuy.jpg

Brand new Sachs dampers for a happy bunch of Clio 182 Trophy owners (including myself). There's another 13 sets, in addition to these 10, which will be arriving elsewhere as soon as deliveries can get through the snow we're currently suffering from!

Due to RenaultSport no longer manufacturing certain items for the humble Trophy, a keen-eyed member of the Trophy forum was able to find out that a motorsport performance parts company in France had bought the last remaining sets and had them up for sale. A few guys went ahead immediately and bought a set for themselves. They looked fine with some showing a few storage scuff marks and some a slightly different colour to others. Even so, they were/are all genuine and brand new (hence in tip-top condition). Due to the limited stock, a group buy quickly came together and this was spearheaded by BenG, with assistance from Tim. A big thank you goes to those two guys for enabling the group buy.

In less than two days it all came together and those in the group buy pulled together the £11,000+ to buy the remaining items. And, as you can see in the pic, they arrived a matter of hours ago at our 'northern depot'. :) A big thanks to those who also took part in the group buy. I've never seen so much money come together so quickly and so efficiently. Top job folks! :)

I'm still getting my original pair refurbished by Rik Perry though. He's a wizard with his hands and there's nothing quite like having your Sachs tickled by Perry.

Wow that's a great find and good work by the trophy guys to get them all bought. We're they cheaper than a refurb job then?
Yes mate, they worked out cheaper than a typical refurb! Hence, it was too good an opportunity not to be a part of the group buy. Sadly a fair few people still missed out as they were snapped up within - pretty much - hours.

April 2018 - Update #1

Just a very quick update on Le Clio b*****d Rouge...

Things are moving steadily but there's not all that much to report as yet. The engine bay is currently awaiting the arrival of some inconel engine bolts so that things can be put back together. Talking of which, the mounting and fixing of the turbo is proving quite interesting as there doesn't seem to be a lot of room to play around with inside that engine bay! It looks like a bit of Dremel action might be needed to afford a little more room for secure fixing of components. However, that runs the risk of breaking the casting as there's not a lot of 'meat' to play with.

Thanks to those offering help/advice recently and to Mick for his ongoing work.

At least things are going forward mate! Hopefully this is ready to come out to play this summer!

Absolutely - forward is a good direction to be moving! With a bit of luck I will be able to see some summer action this year - here's hoping! It's just a shame that there was so much left undone. It's far from a simple "let's just bolt it all back together again" type job. The more I see it, the more I realise just how little of the work was carried out. I feel like I've burdened Mike with it despite his generous offer to take it on and finish it. In effect, Mike has been left with the majority of the work still to be done. Whilst I'd rather see my hard-earned go to him he's a busy guy with a business to run as well. It is what it is. Fingers crossed!

EDIT: I don't include the engine build in this as Steve did a cracking job on it and I hope to see it in action soon!

Strong words mate.

4 years ago you’d have been squashed under the ban hammer for comments like that.

I am incredibly disappointed with how things have turned sour and I'm absolutely sick to death of the farce that this has become. Whilst I continue to update this thread and document the car's history I am painfully aware just how much of a s**tfest it has become. I'm surprised (albeit grateful) that folks still follow despite the severe lack of updates and progress.

Thankfully there are still a few specialists out there who just continue to deliver and are good on their word. :) Find a good one and stick with 'em! The problem I now have is that the car is quite a burden for whomever takes it on. I had a bit of an automotive heart-to-heart with Mick last night apologising for what I've dumped in his workshop. He agreed to, and will, see it through but I still feel really bad. I shouldn't feel this way as I don't feel any of this is my fault. I feel completely detached from the car right now if I'm being honest. But, ultimately, it is my responsibility and - in hindsight - maybe it should have been terminated / nipped in the bud many, many years ago.

Regardless of current feeling we are way past the line of no return and I can't afford NOT to see it through. Thankfully it's not broken me financially (as I am suitably tight and budget for these worst case scenarios!) but it has broken me in every other way! LOL! We are determined to get it done sooner rather than later and it WILL be ready this year. :)

It can only get better! Don’t let it get to you it’s paper and metal at the end of the day life could be a lot worse! What’s done is done just enjoy it when it gets sorted!

Baller level.
FLOL! I'll probably hit that mark around mid-May when Mick starts charging me rent / storage for use of his workshop... :p

Yes, agreed - it could be worse. It's just frustration mate. Pure and simple. The fact I'm not mechanically inclined doesn't help either as I'm neither use nor ornament when it comes to anything more complicated than an oil change. :p

  Hi comp phase 1
These negative thoughts will disappear as soon as your blasting your way home from Micks.
There may well be some little niggle that pops up soon after rebuild but at least Le clio b*****d rouge will be 99.9% complete.

Where's that stiff upper lip gone? Surely it hasn't abandoned you after all these years? The reason people read this everytime an alert pops up for it is because they like you and they hope to see a post with a positive update in it. You sir and Le Clio b*****d Rouge will go down in cliosport history. Kids buying used electric clio sports will be asking "what happened to that £100k b*****d trophy?" and the answer will probably be "it's owner is buried in it" 😂

ROFLMFAO!
@OssPoop - sir, YOU are a legend. And a prophet. I very much suspect I will be buried, or cremated, in it. I'm not prepared to spend my hard-earned on a nice casket when I've got a £250k ;) Trophy I could use. Inflation.
