i did start to think about doing the brakes aswell today as the front end is up in the air but i thought i will quit whilst i am ahead....
these will be getting sorted next, along with painting the rear beam and fitting the rear Whiteline ARB (now also powdercoated yellow)...

IMG_0696.jpg

Carbon Lorraine RCE6 for the fronts
Carbon Lorraine RC5+ for the rears
and lots of nice MOTUL brake fluid.....

so today was pretty much as planned ^^^^
got to halfords nice and early to pick up the paint then headed on down to work on the clio...
when i got there it turns out the guys at the unit needed a bit more room so they had taken the clio off the sxle stands so the front end was no longer in the air... dam it..

i did a bit of tidying up first, moved some stuff around and then decided that the best bet would be to do the rear first and fit the ARB at the same time,
so first of all i got the rear up in the air, wheels off and stripped the calipers down, (i totally removed the carriers on the rears so i could give them a lick of paint)

SAM_0042.jpg

SAM_0044.jpg

SAM_0045.jpg

whilst the calipers were off and drying i set about treating the rear arches like i had already the front and i cleaned them up and black hammerite'd them. Once final assembly happens i will also underseal certain bits...

SAM_0046.jpg

SAM_0056.jpg

and then painted the rear beam...time for coffee whilst it all dries...

SAM_0049.jpg

so dried off and i set about fitting the rear ARB...

SAM_0050.jpg

not to hard really so wasn't too long,
without
SAM_0051.jpg

droplinks on
SAM_0053.jpg

and ARB on
SAM_0055.jpg

happy days,
with that done the calipers had dried so i set about re-assembling the rears, callipers on and then slide in the new Carbon Lorraine RC5+ pads...
job done, so whilst there was still good time in the day, back to the front end...
so i got the front end back up in the air, love how quick it is to change the fronts, 10mins a side tops, i felt this was to easy so i decided to paint the callipers here aswell...

carrier open,
SAM_0057.jpg

out with the (not so) old green stuffs
SAM_0058.jpg

and in with the new, (Carbon Lorraine RCE6)
SAM_0059.jpg

dropped the car back on the floor and then it was pretty much time to head home, didn't get round to draining and topping up with the motul brake fluid, that will be the first job next time....
this is how she stands again, i really feel there isn't much to do before paint now, i am guestimating 2-3 months and she'll be back (ready) to go on the road

Good progress my friend. Car is looking good with the subframe.

Oh and you little liar, your running spacers on the rear!!!!

I'll try and put myself forward for some jobs in bath and see what happens. I know I've got one to do in Devizes sometime so I can stick it in the van and drop it at work or something

Whats left to do?

Exhaust
Suspension
Fit airbox/ITB's
Paint prep + spraying
Fix new windows

6 weeks tops!

Exhaust - Will be a Yozzasport so got to wait for the order to go through,
Suspension - I was sorting this but this has had to take a back seat and i am unsure what i am doing yet, I really don't want to but i may have to keep the FK's with a set of Gaz rear shocks, after all that i have done now the car really deserves more
Fit air/box ITB's - its back with the motorspot technician (lol), i have to go and visit them so we can work out how the box / engine bracing will work on a spare engine he has, then i will come home and fit it again
Paint prep + spraying - this will not be rushed and will be done by a mate so may have to wait a little
Fix new windows - a quick job, but fitting everything else back in and plumbing bits in etc will take a while, battery etc.

then theres the new digi-dash, a remap etc etc.... the list goes on...lol

I'll try and put myself forward for some jobs in bath and see what happens. I know I've got one to do in Devizes sometime so I can stick it in the van and drop it at work or something

cool man but don't worry to much, its not life or death

It's first outing is going to be a road trip to Exeter in June. Fact.

and parking down your road...lol
(he doesn't live in a rough area, just has nasty curbs...)

i would love to just go and work on the car right now rather than being sat in the office, could really push it on,
i will give tony a buzz about the rear screen and keep you updated

  Evo 5 RS
cheers geez, I sent my rear/q back to him as I decided lack of hard coating was a bit of a mistake on my part. He's just added it onto the original price and is sending them back. Top geeza

yerp, tony is a legend, proper nice guy, will go out of his way to help,
if you are going to the action day this weekend try and say hello to him as they have a stand up there.

so another small update, it really feels like i go down to the car and don't achieve much sometimes...
I am now prepping the car for paint, this means i am getting all the fittings in and right before dismantling it all again, this way we know everything will work and we won't be re-drilling painted parts etc etc,

if you remember a little while back i bought some hockey pucks for the seat rails, well today sorting these would be my first job...
because of the nature of my super-low custom subframes there was a gap under the rear outer corner on both subframes, The galvanized rubber of a hockey puck would solve this (would act as a spacer and a cushioning one at that)...so

i took a puck at a time, marked it up to match the subframe and started cutting using a angle grinder and disc (there was almost fire)...
IMG_0704.jpg

once i got it down tho the right shape i then set about getting it to the right thickness...
IMG_0707.jpg

gob done, see how they fit, and then repeat for the opposite side...
IMG_0705.jpg

IMG_0706.jpg

IMG_0710.jpg

other things i had to mark up were the holes i would need to drill to bolt the battery box down, and also the passenger side footrest...
battery box in position and marked behind the passenger seat
IMG_0711.jpg

IMG_0714.jpg

and then the footrest, (this needed a bit of shaping with the grinder again)
IMG_0708.jpg

IMG_0709.jpg

next up i wanted to see how the top dash was going to fit (this may be interesting to a fair few).
I thought it was going to need a fair bit of work, however i went through my box of screws and found out some nice long ones, i then placed the dash and propped it in position, to my amazement (and with a bit of convincing) the screws can go into the existing screw holes (plastic clips)... awesome, so no work here then... pics of the dash in.
IMG_0716.jpg

IMG_0715.jpg

IMG_0718.jpg

IMG_0719.jpg

pretty made up with my progress so far i then had to look at how the carbon (roof scoop) was going to mount, this is pretty much the last piece of the interior that needs to be sorted, i got it in and then was having a chat with my mate...

IMG_0723.jpg

the idea was to cut it in half then mount it to the dash bar and the exhaust tunnel, i would then sink the heater controls and the few other controls including the lighter in it also from behind, we got increasingly concerned about being able to cut the piece and also cutting the holes, it is a very thin piece of carbon and is also very expensive, if it goes wrong i am screwed, I don't want something that is basically expensive scrap...
so i kind of have a few options....

1. try and make it work (may work, may not...its 50/50)
2. get rid of it and look at making another box somehow, keeping the heater, heater controls etc.
3. get rid and also get rid of the heater, then look for a heated windscreen etc...

opinions welcome...please

so with that now annoying me i stepped away and decided to re-route my battery cable, i have managed to tuck it in the sill, it goes in at the front of the footwell and then comes out in the rear passenger footwell (battery location) so it will be super tidy.
IMG_0712.jpg

IMG_0713.jpg

and last but no means least, a massive thanks to Conlon for sorting me with this lighter...
i spotted it in his thread and luckily when i pm'd him he knew exactly where to get one, so got it ordered and it arrived, spanks again mate, top bloke.
IMG_0724.jpg

that will be getting sunk somewhere... dunno where lol
and i also thought that this really needs to be done at some point so when i left i chucked the full clio loom in the boot of the passat, this could possibly be next weekends stress relief...lol
IMG_0729-1.jpg

thats it for today, my thoughts are all on the dash for now.....please all air opinions, info.... etc etc

I had to cut holes in my door cards for the handles, again very thin carbon probably 1mm, I used a normal hole cutter drill bit and it cut perfect with no rough edges, I was very suprised. Tbh I would but go for it ooooor ask a carbon specialist to cut the holes or you I'm sure somebody would do it ?

Edit: Im pretty drunk writing this so if it doesn't make much sense I will edit tomorrow and great progress mate massive inspiration!!

  TrackCar & F30 330d
I have also used drills, hole saw's and angle grinders on carbon fibre and they all cut well and leave a clean cut. As long as you measure twice and cut once then you'll be fine.

Ditching the blowers would make the car's inside look much neater. Look into Motorsport blowers/demisters. I'm sure there is something out there for your needs, or try the stuff I tx you about :)

thing is if i choose to loose the blowers then i won't run this dash piece at all, the only reason its there is to kind of hide the blower...
i have thought about it more realistically, i wanted to keep the blowers just incase of damp / wet weather but i am unsure if it will ever get used in that weather.....

  CLIO PH1 172
If it's your second car that will only ever have occasional use then ditch the blowers IMO !! But that centre consol would look amazing

Or might rain at a track day, I'd be concerned for the one day that I needed them. Either tat or just keep a sponge in the wagon lol.

Fair bit of progress though boner', makes me think mine has a little too much interior still

  Evo 5 RS
brilliant matey, that center console should look amazing. I'm with Conlon, if you can't stomach the extra a heated windscreen would save you a lot of ball ache

  Astra coupe t, nova
I lost the heaters in my nova, I strongly suggest keeping them. I bought a heated screen for that in the end. Worked well. Doing a wet trackday seeing next to nothing is real FAIL!

Don't forget to put gromets in the cill where your battery cable goes through.
(apol if you have them !)
