Stop and Battery light ( not alternator )

  BMW E92 320D
Heya

So my stop and battery light kicked in this weekend. Read a few threads and decided it be my alternator. :)

The stop and start light came on, I figured it was the alternator
We brought out a multimeter to test it. A friend hooked it up. I can't remember the reading, but is was low. So we wanted to check if the car could run at high revs without the battery. The thought behind this was, that the alternator will be provided enough power. So we started it, and revved the nuts of it, and removed the positive terminal at the same time. It immediately switched off.

I tried to start the car myself, and it will turn for 2 secs and stop. Hooked up a pair of jumpleads to the gf's car, but still no joy.

I had the Greenflag guy come over to start the car last night, and he thinks it's the crank sensor.

And now my car just won't start. 2sec turn, and no more.

Anyone care to throw a dog a bone here? :)
