Still have fuelling/rough running issues. Call to arms, tried everything...

Okay so checked all the injectors tonight - removed one by one, no stalling - so thats that theory crossed off the list? Checked throttle body too. All clean there. New lambda seems to be shot as mpg has dropped and power down again. Lambda was original fault thrown up when plugged in to diagnostics (only flashed up when car had the issue, hadn't logged other times)

Getting really fed up with this now. Again the symptoms;

-Runs fine under light loading...no issues
-Under full throttle once it passes 5/6k it brick wall violently, then starts to lose speed as if you took your foot off the accelerator and coasted.
-After that point it really struggles to respond to any throttle opening and sometimes even stalls with clutch depressed or in neutral. Not pleasent at speed I can tell you.
-It will idle very roughly at just 500rpm, sometimes even dipping lower, very chug chug
-MPG is down, motorway run at 70mph will return around 33mpg
-right exhuast is black. very sooty
-occasionally the engine light will flash on/off when running fine then disappear after 30 seconds or so (does this about once a month)

Known issues with the car;

-dephaser needs changing.
-oil leaking from camseals

Is it possible for the dephaser to cause this and mess with timing? Please help me, I'm struggling for money at the moment and can't afford to throw away anymore money on labour charges!

when you say new lambda, do you mean actually new, or a second hand one? They're fragile and can stop working just from being removed.

Dephaser being really bad can cause rough running, flat spots, and bad economy, but that's usually when it's got no spring left in it at all.

Coolant temperature sensor may be to blame also.

I would like to see some live data. The suddenly dieing at higher revs suggests to me it could be a voltage issue, weak spark not being able to ignite injected fuel. Need to monitor and record what happens when the fault occurs

I had a broken track on a throttle position sensor (inside the throttle body) give very similar faults once

Thanks for response guys... And just to clear up when removed each injector the rpm died a little as to be expected.

Dan - yep brand new lambda, bosch one. All a diagnostics threw up was the lambda when the fault occured...

Also, there is no engine/emissions light on/flashing when it does happen.

If the changed injectors dont help then its gotta go off to an engine specialist I guess

Mine died on the M54 heading towards Wales (was it trying to tell me something). I did a series of wiggle tests on the engine wiring and it showed it was the big red wire at fault - the one attached to the centre of the alternator. Probably caused by my rough handling of the loom when I changed the engine. I recommend checking around the wiring loom with a volt meter.

Had a coincidental phonecall this evening that might help. Similar problem, but the issue was happening it 2.5k. After a few questions it turned out a sub and amp had been recently installed, so I advised this be disconnected, and away went the problem. Got it in tomorrow to check, but I suspect the battery couldn't cope with the extra load. A drop test of the battery should prove the theory

Thanks chaps! Put a smile on my face this morning. Dan, legend as always, long time now speak hope all is well. I'll get this looked at and report back :)

Not tested the above yet but noticed a sort of hollow sucking almost tinny noise that comes in at 3k. Doesn't do it under light throttle but half throttle or more trying to use the (lack of) torque and hey presto its there. Doesn't have any effect on the car though.

Strange!

Frayed copper wire an issue or is it just me? pic is upside down sorry

it's not a good thing as the sensor those go to (PAS pressure) is used as part of the anti-stall system

Been driving it around now for the past week, starts runs totally as normal but i've not dared pass 5k. mpg is still shot and EML flashes on/off every other journey now for about 30 secs. MOT due might as well take it to an engine specialist for it.
