Stereo went bang...

  2003 1.4 16V Clio
Tried putting a new stereo in the Clio today, something must have shorted because there was a spark, and now the radio and clock on the top of the dash aren't working. I've checked the fuses, all look fine.

I read that fuse 29 (??? They just have pictures not numbers! Some say it's a picture of a lightbulb but I must be thick because there are no pictures of a lightbulb...) can also cause this. Any ideas?

Weirdly all the dash lighting works fine, and the central locking red dot doesn't come on when I press it anymore. What have I done?!

I've done this when I was rushing to install a headunit and didn't tidy the cables behind the unit up properly.
Almost certainly a fuse, check everything in the passenger door fuse panel if you're not sure and check the connectors to the HU.
Do the interior lights still come on or the cigarette lighter still work?
Where was the spark?....

IIRC I think it's one of the lightly bigger 20 amp fuses in the passenger door panel. You might even have a spare fuse on the fuse panel cover. Renault are good like that.
Just pull them out with the provided tool and examine them. If there's gab in the wire - replace the fuse. :)

Regarding your central locking, does the button actually work? Again almost certainly a fuse issue but also pull the panel the button is attached to off (just prise it off with a screwdriver or something) and check the fat orange connector going to the button.
The cabling behind the dash is real tight and it's quite easy to disconnect something.

Cheers for that. I read a few forum threads on it, but my symptoms don't seem to match up...

Spark was on the stereo cage, missed my finger by about an inch. Central locking dash button works, but the little red light doesn't come on the button like it used to. Cigarette lighter works fine (that's on the same fuse!!)
