Springs Guide

  Lionel Richie
tools needed

ratchet
18mm socket (rear lower shock bolts)
17mm spanner (front shock top mount retaining nut)
21mm socket and a spanner (front top mounts, lower shock bolts)
breaker bar
hammer
axle stand x1 (ignore if you have 2 trolley jacks)
trolley jack x 1 (2 makes things easier)
deep 19mm socket (wheel nuts, only need to remove front wheels)

open bonnet
loosen top mounts with 21mm (if stuck, impact gun)
loosen wheel nuts
jack up front ON BOTH SIDES, BOTH WHEELS OFF THE GROUND
wheels off
loosen lower 2 shock bolts
tw*t out with hammer (be careful not to damage end of bolt)
unclip ABS wire
remove top mount cap whilst holding shock up
remove shocks by moving the lower part back towards the track rods

undo 17mm retaining nut ontop of top mount on the shock
spring will pop slightly
YOU DO NOT NEED SPRING COMPRESSORS!
new springs on
pull shock up (as it will sink down)
now you might need a friend to help here
top plate and top mount back onto spring and push down, get mate to screw on retaining nut (can be fiddly as the shock always want to drop)
tighten up 17mm as tight as possible
back on car
reverse process
shock back on car, spin the top cap on
note - make sure you put lower shock bolts in the correct way round
note 2 - you may have to lift the hub up to get the shock bolts back in, breaker bar through the wishbone to lift
note 3 - when re-tightening top mount caps in engine bay do them BY HAND until you feel a resistance, no harder, otherwise you'll spring the top cap and the spring will pop out = back to square 1
rears

undo 2 lower 18mm bolts
jack up on both sides (this is where 2 jacks is handy)
springs will fall out
pretty obvious how to do it

the end

  Lots of Alfas
Make sure both wheels at the front are jacked up off the ground and make sure the passenger side driveshaft doesnt pop out.
