Simple Service or so i thought! - Massive Bill to sort out

  Clio MK3 Work in progress
Just put the car in for a Service, not happy, following needs doing.

New Disc's and pads all round
New rear left Shock obsorver leaking, better to replace both?
New Exhaust Centre Section (Baffles worn/ rattling)
Timing Belts replacing

Full Service and just the rear pads and Discs - £350 quoted.
Any ideas on costs of the rest - Or place to get them done in surrey.

Thanks Darren

So you need your cambelt done? That'll cost a pretty penny...

Discs and pads - could do yourself using GSF parts for cheaper.

Exhaust - get one second hand or just upgrade to a full stainless system.

Shocks - yes, replace in pairs.

Yeah thats what i thought. I use the car for commuting to work, about 1200 miles a month, so will have to get the bits done. Havnt had the car long either, garage i got it from are like, all 'wear and tear' items, and the warrenty i have, is worth nothing, as there not mechanical parts but 'wear and tear' again. Guess ill have to just pay out, what i need to.

I had a quote before I bought a 172 for cambelt change at Renault specialist - £303

Pads and discs are simple, go to GSF

Exhaust, depends what you want, heard you can get an Ashley one for £160 but dont quote me!

Shocks, GSF again probably, DO THEM BOTH!

Get in touch with the boys at Rentech who are based in Portsmouth, you may think it is far to go but it's an hour down the A3 and they will do everything on your list. I have had my belts, rear discs/pads and a few services done down there, not to mention other jobs as well. Very competitive on prices and I guarantee the journey will be worth it

Forgot to say that they can get rear discs/pads for you and they are very well priced :)

Called Renault:
Centre Exhaust = £156.72 + Vat
Rear Shocks pair = £93.04 inc Vat
Labour = £127 inc Vat

Getting full major service and brakes and rear discs for £350.00 inc vat

Can i get them cheaper else were?

Then ill sort timing belt out next month, as i still have few months before it needs replacing (dont want to risk leaving it to long though) They reacon £250 for cam belt and aux belt fully fitted.

Any surrey Garages Reccomended, its at rsr in redhill at moment.

where did you get the service done? Do they definately need changing?

RSR in RedHill, surrey. Yeah think they deffo need changing, noticed lack of power and poor fuel comsumption (so that explain the exhaust). I've used them before and never had no problems. Im going to call some of the suggestions on here, and see how that goes.

£250 for a cam belt and aux belt fully fitted is incredibly cheap I would have thought!

Make sure they're doing the full kit with the cam belt, not just the belt itself!

Will do mate, when i go down there in bit. I thiugh that was very cheap as well.

that is silly cheap! what they doing, spraying belt dressing on it?!

lol i hope not. Perhaps that was the price for parts??? Maybe cheaper because im havning all this other work done. Ill ask all the questions when im there.

That is very cheap mate unless I am right in thinking they are quoting you one price for the major service and then a quote for the cambelt and aux belt which means a total of £600 for the whole lot including the rear brakes, which if they are supplying the rear brakes it still seems very cheap to me

rear shocks are 110 quid for renault jobs and do in pairs - takes ~ 10 mins todo yourself each
pads all round are easy - depends on what u want - cheapo ones are fine for road use - 30 mins per wheel todo and fairly easy yourself.
Front discs are ~100 quid per pair - again easy enuf todo yourself (gsf brembo hc) again 30 mins per wheel.
Garage for rear discs and cam belt. renault for rear disc as it comes with bearing and unless u have a press u wont do it easily.
If cambelt is req ask the garage where u got it from for some assistance as is an issue tbh as usually in 500 bracket + as is cam belt + tensioners also usually coincides with aux belt + water pump if you want to strictly follow the procedure

Yeah cheers. just picked the car up £440 less in the bank. This included Service (Sparks, oil filter, air filter, cabin filter, fuel filter, oil change) Rear brake pads replaced, rear disc replaced, rear wheel bearings replaced.

Left to do now.
Centre Section of Ehxaust - £152 genuine part + Labour or as they are a PowerFlow fitter he said can make me one for £90 + Labour. (would that be a better centre box)
Rear Shocks - £110 including fitting
Belts - Yes i got it wrong - quoted £500 for these. Dunno where got £250 from, he laughed when i mentioned that to him.

Expensive month, anyone wanna donate, please pm. :)

Hmm not sure about fuel filter ! Im sure on clio II and beyond its incorporated into the fuel tank and not swappable on its own (as I tried lol). IIRC only ph1 have an in-line one.

All i can say is Defo take it to RenTech, they know what there doing and won't rip u off, unlike renault on both accounts.

Oh also do your discs and pads actually need doing? I thought that was just a generic thing for dealers to say.
