Setting up coilover ride height?

So got hold of a second hand set of ASTs and want them set up best I can for track. I'll be getting the car corner weighted eventually once I've finished weight reduction.

So much contradictory advice online, some say use the wheel centre to arch, whereas others say this is a no no and it should be done via measuring the strut height, and this should be done before fitting, which I really don't get as you have no reference of the height and would need adjusting on car anyway.

What I plan on doing is setting the height half way down the struts off the car then fitting, adjusting accordingly. The issue I'm having is even with my weight ballast in the drivers seat, when setting the height I don't think an exact ride height for front and rear axels will be correct. Obviously the rear will be a tad higher for the forward rake but I'm thinking the osf will need to be a tad higher than the nsf to add more weight to the nsf to balance the front axel weight? What confuses me is in changing a front corner, that will then alter the rear directionally, so lowering the nsf with raise the osr.

Once set I'll be having it aligned for camber and toe but don't want to get on track and it handle like s**t, therefore needing to adjust the ride height, in turn changing the camber and toe settings, making it all pointless, lol.

Or am I just thinking to much into it, and it's pointless without properly corner weighting it?

Thinking about it too much 😂

I just go off the centre of the arch to the ground all round. The rear being 10mm higher than the front.

Shouldn't matter where you take the measurements from as long as it's consistent all round.

Haha I need to stop reading up on 'settings up coilovers' lol.

Without scales you won't know where you're at really. Looks wise you won't go far wrong the way I said.

brain freeze.

Do you have to set the front right slightly higher to compensate for weight?

Ah ok. I thought it was some kind of joke reference for blink motorsport lol.

Clear 'view'
Blink.

You 'see' where my logic lay.

Yeah it's been a long day :/

Winner this place is only 9 minutes away from my house according to google maps, I'll be going here myself when I get my coilovers, nice to have a specialist local for a change.

Makes a massive difference getting it all set up correctly. New BC's and PM RARB going on the new track car and going to CGR Automotive for corner weighting and full geometry setup. Can't wait to see the difference.

Can you corner weight the rears on the BCs yeah? Thought they just had spring spacers to adjust height?

Your ride height should be determined by the corner weighting of the car, with you in it, whatever ballast you need to run and the amount of fuel you want to have in. I would just fit them as they are then have it all set correctly. Where you plan to use the car will also have an impact on how the corner weight will be set

Just got booked-in with Adam at clear motorsport. Bit of a wait (Feb 18) but will be ready for 2018 track days, thanks @bloke
Are you still booked in here? 18th's a sunday, is that a missprint or they open sundays?

Be interesting to see how you get on, I've just been qouted £300 to fit/set up coilovers to the mini, although they have rear damper extension adjusters which need drilling through to the boot for access, so not quite straight forward, I'll call in and get a qoute sometime.

Had to cancel mate, was due tomorrow but my engine blew last weekend at Oulton. Will get into him in the summer now if I keep the car.
