Rear light fitting

I presume this has been asked before time and time again but here goes,

I have a 98-01 clio and the rear lights arnt as good in my opinion as the ones on the 01-06 model.

They are the same shape and i doubt renault would make anything different about them so that you couldnt just do a straight swap because whats the point? Am i right? Could i just swap them is there any different lightinh leads or anything i would need or plugs or whatever.
