Possibly changing to a 197

  2008 Albi 197
Well, I've come to a point now where I feel I want a car with a bit more power than the Dynamique S. I've had my heart set on a 197 fot the last year, but unfortunately couldn't afford it back when I changed cars last Autumn which is why I went for what I did instead.

Anyway, hopefully come the summer I'll have enough saved up to get one but am not sure whether to find a private one or go through a dealer again?

Also, I have a dilemma with what colour to choose between Red, Blue or Black - what are your opinions?

I love the anthracite wheels I've seen on peoples 197's, do these come with the cup pack or just the F1 versions? I don't want the actual cup as I want air con etc, but I woulnd't say no to a nice set of recaros!

Budget should be about £10k - any opinions appreciated!

My colour choice would be Nimbus with the anthracite rims. I think they're part of the Cup pack, which obviously includes the R27. Such a classy looking combo on the 197.

all the 197 colours are awesome, but if it were my choice it would be black or nimbus, with anth wheels

Blacks too hard to look after imo. Nimbus looks good, but ONLY with Anthricite rims. When i bought mine, the cup pack wasn't available. I have Albi Blue. Never photo's well, but flips purple/blue :)

  Golf 7R
Blue in either Racing or Albi looks real good, Black is a nightmare to keep clean, and really highlights swirlmarks, but being biased Nimbus looks fantastic in the flesh, pictures really dont do it justice.

  Ultra Red 197
I did exactly the same.. took my DynS in part ex a year old for a 197.
Never looked back.

Red ones go faster ;)
and you need Cup Pack.

  RB 197 fatty
i just part ex'd my 1.2 in for a 07 plate 197 in racing blue, 19000 miles, cup spoiler, custom leather heated seats and loads of other extra bits n bobs and i got it for £10,299

not bad price i dont think. do it! do it!

Thanks for all the replies!

My current car is red, and although the red of the 197s is different and looks better, I'm not sure I'd want the same again??

I'm really not a fan of silver/grey cars, but I do admit the ones I've seen on here look really good, just not for me.

RB is too light for my liking so I still think its between the Albi or the red lol

Out of interest, can a dealer fit the cup pack before I buy it if I found one that didn't have it, or do they have to be made with it?

Feel free to post pics of yours if you have any...

I see you're from Lichfield. Well i bought my 197 from ds cars in lichfield. His website is www.dscars.co.uk

As for colours. I was after an Ultra Red or a Albi Blue. I wouldn't get your heart set on a colour. Just go for the best deal at the time. But IMO the 197 looks nothing special in black.

Cup pack aint all that. You get stiffer springs that are 7mm lower, Red Calipers, and Anthricite alloys. Thats it.

I agree. It wasn't a must when i was looking to buy a 197. You can always get the alloys powdercoated anthracite anyway. That is what i'm planning to do at some point.

Thanks for that link, I'll have to keep my eye out for any they get in.

So the cup pack is no biggy? I just think the alloys look better in anthracite than silver and would be easier for me if they were already on the car. Plus I'd rather not have to spend much more on the car after I buy it.

I must admit I really like your car Gaz, is swaying me more to the blue side lol

Are those wheels the standard or cup ones (I know they've been painted) as I've seen 2 different styles, or is it the F1 ones that are different?

Yep, removed them and sprayed. Sourced the Brembo decals off the net :)

eBay? I've seen some on there.

So is it easy enough to remove them, spray them and fit them again afterwards? Would I be able to do it myself?

lol well i wouldn't say i'm any good with spanners. Maybe i'll forget that idea or possibly paint them while they're on the car. I bought some Hammerite paint so hopefully that will be ok to use.
