Plip Key won't work outside of car

  Valver Lookalike Mk1 Ph3
For my central locking.

Right in guessing a new key battery is needed?

Where do I get them from?

It's not the batteries, £6 for new ones, and it wasn't the problem.

AND I threw the old batteries away while in Halfrauds :D.

So, any ideas people?

Something to do with the receiver I guess?

Nothing to do with central locking has been replaced since 1996 - so what's the first thing likely to go?

This might sound daft, but place plip against forehead & press button.

Can open car at greater distances using this method, also when batteries are almost shot...........

Have a look to make sure the transmitting diode has not come away from the PCB, re-solder if it has, also check the micro-switch.

True!!!

I've tried it on many occasions and it does work. You can open the car from a bit further away by doing this.

Damnit, english please Mike.

If you had a london branch I'd be popping it round for you/your guys to have a look!

I'm not doubting that the forehead things works, I'm just not going to walk around holding a key to my forehead lol.

And no, I missed Top Gear :(, will be on next tueday tho (I hope).

Take your car to a specialist and try to have it re-programmed. If this doesnt work your going to need a new key. A key for a MK1 ph 3 clio varies from between £35.25 - £54.28 + vat depending on your oval plate number. Once a new key has been supplied it will then need synchronizing to the car at a cost of about £45 ish. Renault plip keys have to be ordered in from France and take 2 - 3 working days.

LOL i started of as a Renault technician 10 yrs ago, moved on to become a technical advisor ( parts & mechanical ) i have worked for numerous Renault dealers and now work at an independant specialist - if i dont know it - its not worth knowing about ;)

Does your car have a sunroof?

Take the reciever out and check for water over the IR window....also check for water corrosion over the circuit board.

The central locking receiver board has some white around the metal chips (water corrosion?).

Can I just change that?

Or will there be a lot of renault programming needed?

It's a french car, don't expect too much.

Mate from the RAC says he has some stuff to sort the water corrosion, it's all good.

MEEEEERRRY XMAS.

f**king hell people..........

Mk1 clio right for starters its IR, not radio, so pressing it against your forehead will do sweat FA!

Again its a mk1 clio so parts are cheap, worst comes to worst speak to matbrown or winston and get another ir reciever and plip and bung those in, will cost you prolly £10-£20.

Check teh sunroof isn't leaking, if it does it leaks ont eh ir reciever and can corrod the circuit, pop it out and visually inspect it

Swap that with a matching plip(cheap 2nd hand) and you'll be spot on

Where the hell have you been Lunner, haven't seen you reply to any posts for ages.

Got bored with the muppets on here tbh......i live on williamsclio.co.uk now.....much better site, and more aimed at the mk1 clios :)

I had this exact problem mate. Did exactly what lunner suggested to you and it is fine now. Just get the roof mounted board and the key fob.

Are only Williams/Valver owners welcome?

All mk1 owners i would imagine are welcome.
I'd personally say any car owner would be welcome it how you are that makes you unwelcome even people who have 2 Williams Clios have been banned and I've got a Mk2 dci and I'm still accepted (or maybe that should read tolerated).

Yeah i've got an RSi, there are people on there, like edde with mk2 clios.....as edde said its the person you are and your attitude that determines whether you are accepted, not what you drive

Yes, thats the corrosion i was on about...try giving it a clean and it may work or worst case get a new (s/h) reciever board and matching plip fobs.

Of course, the annoying fact is that this now means you´ve leak somewhere...either sunroof or aerial...unlucky!

Had this with my 1.2 also.

Water in sunroof, corroded the receiver, bad range.
Clean it all up, fixed sunroof, sorted.
