oil leak on exhaust manifold

Just found a nice little puddle of oil sitting on the exhaust manifold.
Im guessing its maybe the rocker cover gasket. ..
Very new to the mechanics of the 182 is it likely to be anything else?

Apart from renparts are there any other specialist online parts sellers where you can actually order online?

Would also be be interested in any good mechanics near Manchester.

Had my mx5 for years and anything I couldn't do, I could always trust one place to help me out...would be good to have the same for my 182

Most likely yes, its common but there's no gasket to change I'm afraid its a sealant. You will need to remive the timing belt and camshaft pulleys to be able to remove the cover in order to clean and reseal it to.

Not a job for the faint hearted I'm afraid (or the light in wallet dept either).

Not really the answer I was hoping for. ..sounds like I'll have to get someone else to do it.
I did search ebay for a gasket and I did find one for 50 quid...steep to say the least but strange if they don't even have one!

Can 3 bond sealant be used on this

Andy, I promise there is no gasket. That was most likely for the breather plate rather than the actual upper casing. If thats where you're leaking from then its a diy fix but I'd have a proper look first.

Common places are:

Cover to cylinder head mating face
VVC solenoid seal

I use RTV sealant mate, bare in mind it holds the cams in!

Just wondering if anyone can tell me the following..
I have access to the dialogsys software, but dont know which model mine is... its a 2005 182. I have choices of a clio (phase 1 and 2) or clio 2?
Then it asks me what vehicle type it is, with a shed load of numeric options available :S

Yours is a Mk2 Ph2 Clio, engine code will be F4R 736

Check all the rocker cover bolts are tight - have been a few where they have come loose and oil pushes it's way up the threads, and as Mick has said the VVt solenoid seal can leak - thats the thing on the left with the plug on top by the oil filler cap

There's a sticker as you open the driver's door on mine that has all the numbers for dialogys - CB0M, K006678 for a Ph1 172. I think there is an old thread with them all in, too.

Could oil be coming out via one of the exhaust studs?
