Modified 182 - road legal - who best to approach for insurance?

I have a road legal ex Mark Fish Motorsport RB 182 - I do track days but also get involved in local classic car clubs/meets so want it to remain road legal [it has a current MOT] Any recommendations for insurance companies/specialists and what could I expect to pay?

Absolutely impossible to say what it would cost.
As for insurers, Greenlight, Brentacre and Safely Insured are who i would try first.

Thanks - only heard of Brentacre - only company who would touch my track prepared Mk1 Golf were Adrian Flux

I have been using green light insurance for two years and They have been pretty decent so far. My 172 is my second car so they mirrored my no claims from another policy to make it very competitive price wise.

All my mods are declared and additional mods are free unless it changes the engine power if I remember correctly.
They also offered track day cover too.

Greenlight wouldn't cover my clio when I moved into an OL16 postcode 🤣🤣 Was ridiculous as it's just a blanket do not insure!

Went with flux in the end. I hate insurance renewal day.

I really rates Sky insurance for mine but they all seem to swap about (in terms of who's good or not) each year.

I have used Adrian Flux twice and both times was really poor experience so wouldn't recommend them over the others listed here.

I'm currently with Sky and they've been great so far. They were half the price of Adrian Flux and anyone else I found on comparison sites, and the guy I spoke to actually sounded like a car enthusiast instead of just an insurance salesman.

Sky are now called Safely Insured. I've been with them for a few years now as I can't find anywhere cheaper. Well except for Keith Michaels who asked me my renewal and then quoted me £10 less. I hung up and renwewd with SI instead 😂.
Insurance is always a merry go round but at least you have a few to try that might be decent 👍.

Got my Clio insured with Admiral, all modifications declared and roadside assistance included for the very fitting sum of £182.

That is with multi car policy discount though so probably a bit more if its your only car.

I found they would insure certain mods if you were very general about them but when I started talking about remaps and cams on the mini they didn't want to know. They were find with wheels and suspension though.

The main reason I don't look for quotes and swap insurers anymore. I usually need an hour trying to explain what an RS2 and LSD is.

Strange they wouldn't entertain the remap etc though. May have been too much extra power? They just listed mine as a percentage increase over standard.

And if you crash it I don't think anyone is actually going to measure your cam lobes to see if they're standard or not.

I’ve used Brentacre and Greenlight and both were good for me when I had an extensively modified car.

By the way, when you ring them, you might not want to say I have a “Mark Fish Motorsport” 182. There is no such thing so it may confuse them. You’ve got a 182 that has been modified for race / track work, with the modifications I’m assuming mostly fitted by Mark Fish Motorsport. If that makes sense?

Don’t want to give them an excuse for charging you more for no reason.

I’m with Greenlight for the Megane and for the last 5 years have been unbeatable by quite some margin.

Unfortunately I’m stuck with Adrian Flux for the Clio due to the nature of my business. They seem to know they have me over a barrel although last year’s renewal was incredibly good!

I'm a couple of years in for my modified 182 policy costing less than the annual VED charge.

Strangely, when we moved here - various insurance companies were twitchy given that we had a Blackburn postcode, yet are miles away from there. Somehow (which defies all mental logic) they thought our previous Bolton postcode was somehow safer?

Assigning risk based on postcode is simply too generic and simplified. We live in the middle of nowhere now, compared to a previous location that was increasingly being scroatified. We even saw two attempted vehicle robberies from our communal car-park from where we used to live...... but hey, cheaper insurance right?

I've always insured my modified cars with Greenlight, but on this occasion tried Adrian Flux and the lad was brilliant.

Greenlight were like "that's the price for today, ring back tomorrow and it could go up, do you want it yes or no". No, thank you!

Apparently, my 182 isn't as modified as they'd like, so I have to pay a premium. And of course, the likes of eSure won't touch it.

All original factory parts, except for AST 5100 coilovers, Recaro Pole Positions and Pure Motorsport Racing Exhaust with 200 cell Sports Cat.

£370 per year, 6,000 miles per annum, insured at home and in storage.

Pretty happy with that.

I considered ringing a few Simon, but the guy was so bloody nice and professional I just handed him my card :ROFLMAO:

Peter was his name.

My last 2 182's have been with Greenlight. The lad I normally deal with wasn't there. I didn't like their attitude.

I’m with greenlight. Initially when getting a rough quote before buying the guy he didn’t even quote me lol, just said roughly this much. Okay.

When I did get the car he undercut brentacre. I pay £399 and unlimited mods etc. did declare my cams etc.
