Mileage...

  Iceberg 172
Due to my Cup getting written off I've lost out on a lot of money.

So looking at cheaper 172's by the looks of it.

Does anybody have any experiences of higher mileage 172's???

I'm talking 80k+.

My Cup was just shy of 60k and apart from the steering wheel it felt new!

Am I going to be going into a complete money pit or if it's been properly maintained should it be just as good as any other????

Anybody got one on 100k miles???? I've come accross an Iceburg Silver 172 with only 2 owners... immaculate, local too me, FSH, belts etc done, new brakes etc but it's on 105k miles. Now if it was German I wouldn't of battered an eye lid but as it's french I was a little put off. Should I be or if I can get it for cheap enough money should I go for it???

My Cup has about 87k on it and its still storming! :)

My understanding is that - if they are looked after - they are like a fine wine > get better and more potent with age!

Fletcher and Russ have 115+k on theirs and they seem to still be going strong?

Fletcher has one on over 100k. Look after it and you'll be okay I'd imagine. It's just going to need all the consumables (exhaust/suspension) replacing again not too far away.

But 100k on a silver Ph2, can't be even worth £3k?

Did you not get a decent pay out for your Cup?

No matter what the mileage, just make sure the car has full service history and reciepts for recent cambelt/aux belt, exhaust, engine mounts, rear discs/pads/bearings and you will be fine.

F4R engines run forever if looked after.

Well the seller says it's got FRSH, belts were done 20k miles ago, new brakes all round. I'll be putting my brand new coilies on it with my Turini's plus my Momo Team wheel. So it should be looking very tidy very quickly.

It's up for just shy of £3k.

Well as the British Gas van hasn't been found yet my excess (£1200) is coming out of the pay out my insurers are giving me as well as offering me less than I paid for it. So I've gone from a £6k Polo 20vt to a £3k Clio 172 in a month :dapprove:

Cool Cool. It looks good and the garage says it has had a small fortune spent on it recently and he has all the reciepts.

Thanks.

Speak to Gally mate. He'll help you. Have you argued you want more cash?

They have to give you enough cash to replace your car from a dealer. Not a random bloke selling one for 50p on his drive.

Mine just ticked over 100k, no major problems but just bushes etc etc that have started wearing which I replaced. If its got a full renault service history and lots of receipts with 2 owners its sounds like an alright car but always double check everything! I'd say that it wouldn't be worth 3k, probably 2.5k tops sounds about right to me.

My 02 172 has done over 105000 miles and is still in good condition only problems i have had is driveshaft and i bought the car with 22000 miles on it.

They're saying that as my car was brought privately (they know that) that they have to compare it to cars being sold privately.

I think it was Gally that told me book price was £5100... when I said that to my insurers they nearly put the phone down!

I'm in sales so good at negotiating but they're looking at £3600 - £1200 = £2400.

I'm wanting £5000 - £1200 = £3800... But I can't see it happening.

If I could get £4200 at least I'd be left with £3k which will get me a relatively decent 172 once i've added a few £££'s.

It's all just a bit gutting, annoying and stressful. Never had an accident before in any of the silly powered cars i've had... get a little clio and within a week it's written off. And it has a massive effect on your life not having a car!!!!!!!!!

And driving the mrs's 1.4 lx 206 is driving me insane!!!!!!!!

Good to hear about some 100k+ cars still going strong! Thanks guys!

What's really selling this one to me is the fact it's Iceburg and has over 10 pics on their website of the whole car and it looks mint.

Dealer has invited me down on the weekend and after hearing my situation has said he'll take it off sale until i get my cheque from insurance for a £200 deposit.

Sounds good to me!

My ph1 is on 115k now and its just as good as my old one on 75k. Good servicing is the key.

Hi mate sorry to hear about your poor offer of payout. My glass' guide is at work but if you have access to a fax machine I can try help you out.

Nothing I can do about your excess i'm afraid but you take that gamble when you take the policy out.

Who's your insurance company again?

Hi mate,

I'll pm you my fax number at work... that'll be great.

I'm with Elephant... the excess is my own stupid thought as I should of looked through all of my policy docs properly (very unlike me). So I Thought I had agreed on the phone to a £500 excess... wel I did, but that didn't include the compulsary excess plus the young drivers excess!

Fingers crossed they find the van and i'll get my excess back (or atleast some of it depending on liabilty share) but that doesn't really help me now!
