MAJOR running/fuelling issues, please help me!

  182
Hi guys,

Basically I've got major running issues assuming fuel related. Had the car on the diagnostics and it threw up lambda sensor, replaced it today - result... much better running, throttle response, even more power, mpg lept from 30 to 50 on the return journey, motorway cruise... winning :)

However, close to home foot down again and it threw its wobbler... wont rev, chugs, even stalls, then idles really roughly...fail :(

So what else could it be? Injectors... throttle body?

Also have the small matter of discovering the cam seals are leaking, oil is around the cambelt & the de-phaser pulley is buggered. Sulk.

Left with a bill of 700+ to right everything, or new engine time?

Problem is, I can't possible afford it for another month. What can I do?

TIA

I should also add that this problem is intermittant... two hours later and its started fine.... Rev "freezing" generally happens when under heavy throttle.... However other times it can start up with the issue. Argghhh!

If its mechanical wouldn't the problem be constant. Plugs & leads also replaced by previous owner with last 12 months...

What is your temperature gauge doing? Might be the temperature sensor (Cts SENSOR I think)...this is a reasonably common failure.

Tooney, long time no see.

My 182 is having running problems too, it keeps cutting out when warm on idle. If I find out what it is I'll pass it on, see if its any help.

Mine isn't throwing fault codes out though.

I had something similar with mine during the colder months, engine wouldn't rev even with the throttle pedal flat to the floor, only happened for a brief few moments and only ever did it the once. I was told it was more than likely fuel related i.e injectors etc.

Cheers chaps, no fault codes other than lambda came up either. Worries me that throwing a fortune at it on cambelt etc and can still have same issues! Brett, good to see you've graduated to a 182... back to the real world now torque monster M3 chewing C32 too much to run :(

Tempted to get the tb off it and inspect... roll on from there

Sounds electrical if intermittent.
I'd get it in at a specialist in the first instance - putting an engine in, would be the last resort!

Edit: probably not related and I don't know if the clio has one, but I had a similar issue on my old vectra - was a faulty crank sensor.

Yeah clio does have one, will check it out.

Reference to new engine is for the cost of fitting and repairing new seals belts dephaser could save £200 with engine transplant. I have no plans to sell the car

I was having starting issues. Looks like it was my crank sensor, took it off and it was covered in grease and dirt. No starting issues for the time being at least.

Have you checked your coil pack?

not yet, not had time but its been replaced in last 12 months.

more research i do on this the more it looks like I have a faulty injector. my problems mirror this... http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=967266 when on the move the problem only seems to rear its ugly head when i boot it...

I really hope my new lambda isn't fried now though after yesterday's misfiring! £80 wasted if so!

You'd be stupid not to do belts on new engine which makes the price of an engine transplant a lot higher.

To buy an engine is £300-500 so on top of that you'd need to spend £400 to get belts and dephaser, just spend £600 and get it done on current engine?

Who did your Cambelt?

could be lambda sensor.. it f***s these engines up a treat lol... revs freezing and all sorts!

when I had a faulty lambda it just lost all power, putting my foot to the floor did nothing, would do this only when warm and would last a few seconds before the car had power again.
You say you have replaced the lambda but it is possible that it's faulty

I had a bust injector, it sounded more like an impreza than a clio and came up with lights on the dash.

Best thing to do is get it to a clio specialist..
