London

On saturday I was in London for the day just on a general wander visit, no specific agenda other than to take some photos and enjoy the city. So this time I had a different setup to my last visit in terms of lenses with last time being entirely shot on a 135mm F2L, and this time being a mix of my Sigma 15mm F2.8 Fisheye, Sigma 50mm F1.4 and Canon 70-200mm F2.8L. So this meant I could be more versatile and get some shots that I couldn’t get last time. This time, I did some night shots too, something that wasn’t possible on my last visit with it going dark so late and having to travel back to Birmingham at a reasonable hour. However, as I went to go and do my night time shots I turned my camera on to see that I only had 9% battery, and as it turned out, in the process of changing bags to fit my tripod I had forgotten my second battery :( So the amount of night photos I could get was limited. I am making a return in a few weeks to do some more night time stuff there as it’s something that I’d wanted to do for a long time, and it certainly didn’t disappoint when I did do some even as briefly as I did.

So the photos-

awesome shots!

i love your pictures :approve:

q: do you get giddy when you see cars of that calibre lol?

Cheers!

Oh the F40 was a dream come true, what a stunning car. I’ve never seen one in the metal before either, that was a special occasion. I heard something round the corner and I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw it lol.

Incredible photos Fella.

My day time pics are bad and my night ones even worse :(

Car pictures are great as are the Baker Street station shots. Night photos aren't so great IMO, lacking in colour and appear a little dark and very overdone viewpoints without bringing anything new if that makes sense unlike the Baker Street shots which are more original.

Well the night shots are unashamedly cliche, but I don’t care, I wanted to get the cliche shots of my own that I’ve seen other people get before I go looking for something different.

I wouldn’t say that they are dark, just more representative of the actual scene without lurid colours distracting the eye. Perhaps I’ve done these in different lighting conditions to the photos that you usually take, after all to make this scene brighter the highlights would be incredibly blown out. I appreciate the input though, I’ve taken what you’ve said on board and I’ll see what I can do next time.

Amazing set. I didn't realise Baker Street was such an awesome looking station. There are some proper gems hidden below London.

Always wanted to do a tour of the closed station, almost as if time has stood still in them.

Looks great! Did you take anymore in westminster escalators area, i love that section with all the concrete pillars, its not something you see often underground that far.

I think the London ones are great. I don't think the cars are quite as up to scratch, but that's a personal thing :)

Really nice stuff there Niall.
I really like the Primrose Hill shot and also some of the wide angle or fish eye (can't quite tell) underground stuff.
The angles are different to what you normally see.
I like the night cliche shots and will certainly try and get down to take my own at some point!

Thanks guys. Next time I go I’m going to do some more night time stuff, I’m going to try and get some different scenes/angles but this is always going to be difficult in one of the most heavily photographed areas in the world lol.

Just to be clear there's nothing wrong per say with cliche viewpoints, they just either need to be technically brilliant or offer something a little new:)

Where was the F40? Looks close to where I work.

Lovely shots, Westminster always looks better through a lens. :dead:

I often pass that F40 and it's usually on Park street in W1 and that Merc is also parked along there to.

Not keen on the Fisheye shots.

Love that F40 shot, very nice composition too. A shot you may never get again, one to be treasured.

^I like that viewpoint, I might steal that viewpoint when I next visit.

The footbridge has a great view, the other side also! Really wanted to get to the top of the O2 for a picture of Canary Wharf at dusk but they won't let you take dslrs up :(

Ah right yeah, I’ve had that before in business districts, but usually they just send you on your way. I’ll probably avoid it anyway and just get some of the buildings there from another location, like a bit further down the river from Tower Bridge.
