ktec cam upgrade?

  clio 182 sport
Ive got the k-tec package your on about and so do many other people on here and im very happy with it and so are many other from what ive read. it made a big difference to the way the car drives i love it I dont know anything about mapping cars so i cant say if mine has been mapped propley, hasnt gone bang yet and pulls like a train i would be curious as to how to find out how good the mapping is on my car after how k-tec get slagged off on here sooo much by some.

I'm running ITB's as well mate, although I've ditched the K-Tec DTH kit and gone for a Fred/BTM spec Jenvey setup (which I don't know the spec of myself yet!) LOL!

Regarding my replies in this thread, I'm just playing Devil's advocate more than anything really. I've got nothing against boosted Clio's whatsoever (I was blown away when in Chip's turbo'd 172 recently - f'kin' awesome!) but I am simply one of the few who prefer the N/A way. Yeah, it's pi$$ing money away and you're never going to get anywhere near the figures the boost-crew get but I'm not after that personally. :) I guess it ultimately comes down to whether or not you are after a decent hike in power. If not, spend the hefty lump of cash and get the cams, but be realistic that there's only going to be a very mild power increase; albeit with potentially improved response and drivability.

So, a high-comp bottom end you say?! LOL! *thumbs up*

I've put my name down for a BTM spec Jenvey setup but he has yet to email me the list :( Are you running the same cams or something a bit wilder with your build?

but you will be quicker than the boost buses ;)

Fred spec - ask no questions and just drive (eventually!) I'll call you next week, the rebuild starts soon ;)
Well, I didn't want to say too much Fred... ;) LOL!

I won't be asking any questions mate. "Fred spec" will do me just fine and I can't wait to take it out for a blast. I look forward to next week's chat!

He's a busy/wanted(!) man but I'm sure he'll soon get back to you mate. :) As for the cams, I'm going with some wilder Schrick cams.

Do they they have all ways been good with me know what ya saying with cams it's a lot of money for a small gain but next to a 172 with cams and a good map and one without you will see the gain my friend had it done and he pulled away from me nicely

Lets get a video of him versus me at Combe on April 27th which I believe is next trackday for us both. :)

Or is not going to be ready in time now?

LOL! Chip, whilst I'm going to be at Combe I won't be on track (regardless of which car I turn up in). To put it bluntly I don't have any confidence whatsoever in the general level of driving ability on these days, hence I don't venture out. I appreciate you're more than capable at pedalling quickly around a track but my concern is the other couple of dozen out there.

As for the outcome I don't think you'd need to be too concerned anyway mate. There's no way I'm going to be anywhere near the figures a boosted setup will make (well, unless I sell my other kidney, re-mortgage the house, sell my other half and sacrifice engine stability and durability!) LOL! :)

  53 Clio's & counting
FLOL! Was waiting for that :rasp: I'll do my best to keep up - as long as my engine doesn't explode and destroy the universe :S

Boost is nice but n/a is for heros! Requires more skill to be quick in a n/a car, you can't just wait for the straights, got to be quick through corners and use the gears more etc. I personally find my fairly standard cup to be more fun than my old 300+ bhp pulsar apart from the occasional rear end out action exiting corners and roundabouts lol.

you forget, i am the original demon braker, ask Christopher with the red 200 covered in monkey spunk! Ask him how i went against a lambo superleggera ;)

Fred what's your price for bodies fitted?

I have looked into the ED turbo but feel bolting something on that it wasn't intended on could come with it troubles

unfortuatley more than everyone else, not because i'm being a ripoff merchant, just that i want to do the job my way without cutting corners, or as some do, bodge it and scarper! Off the top of my head youll be knocking on for £2.5K +

I understand, having seen the bad luck sharky has had, i would only like to come to you for something like that. Is mapping on top of that? cheers for the quick reply

Corners are what I enjoy, the straights are just a way to get from one corner to the next really. Thing is though if you have a car that handles fairly well you need a lot of power to come out a tight corner and get upto speed enough to be able to enjoy a faster corner if its not that far away.
I enjoy going through bends holding my car on the balance point of traction and if you haven't got enough power to get upto the speed your car can do that corner all that happens is then the corner just ends up being a straight.
Depends on the car and the circuit of course but always nice to have more power and then not use it all than be at full throttle and still bored.

Combe, pah come to a man's circuit, Oulton Park, let's see how you go, i'll even give you a head start!

I'm sure I will be at Oulton at some point just suggesting Combe as its my first event when I get back from working in India.

Chip, you don't seem to do much real circuits (MSA circuits, Oulton, Brands, Rockingham, Snet etc) from the videos and threads that I have seen about your track day escapades, why is that? I personally have only seen you on old airfields and the likes.

Last year I did these ones (most of them a few times each)
Combe
llandow
bedford
silverstone
nurburgring
spa
donnington
mallory

And i didnt do a single airfield day so not sure where that comes from? I don't like airfield days as I prefer kerbs to cones and they wreck yor tyres. Unless you mean places like silverstone or combe cause they used to be an airfield 70 years ago etc? I tend to do mainly southern circuits as currently I live in the southwest, I have to travel well over an hour northeast just to get to Combe even, Oulton etc is too far to do there and back in a day so a lot less convenient, if I move to Nottinghamshire as planned then my local tracks will then be the midlands ones and I can do north or south ones in a day too.

snet and brands although southern are a hell of trek still and hence harder to schedule with work so although I do them sometimes I just didn't last year.

Ahright fair enough, I only seen threads or mentions for Bedford and Llandlow which I wouldn't really class as a circuit in the proper sense. I did see your Europe trip too. My words were wrong maybe, I guess you could say circuits that the likes of BTCC follow, premier circuits in the UK but I was obviously wrong, maybe you had no threads for them.

Your lucky to be surrounded by circuits really, 2 hours to my local and another 2-3 on top to the next.

  182/RS2/ Turbo/Mk1
I'm not surrounded that's my point mate. I'm over an hour southwest of the uk's most southwest circuit. So not much better off than you. If the notts move goes through though I'm sorted then as that is much more adjacent to lots of circuits

even Bedford is around 4 hours for me.

For the record I'm more than happy to pay the extra after being fobbed off so many times over the last few years. Fred might (by his own admission) be a bit more expensive than elsewhere but I think he's one of the few specialists left who give a damn about their customer's cars these days. Me? Bitter? You better believe it! Mind you, I don't think his prices are too bad at all considering the additional time and effort he throws in which often goes unnoticed. Anyway, enough brown-nosing, he's got an engine to rebuild... :rasp:

I wish I could afford some new cams but with the engine only being 2k old, tis a bit expensive to re-replace the 438 cams :( Hopefully he will order both Jenvey sets in one go ;)

Yes, probably a more sensible option considering the young engine and the fact you're already on the 438's! What are your ultimate plans mate?
