Williams 2

at the moment i am borrowing it for a while. I couldn't wait to pick it up, so excited, the owner tried playing it down but i couldn't wait. its the first time i have been back in a mark 1 since i sold my valver...

I freaking love it, there is something in my blood that makes me love mark 1's so much, i have always had it, i always wanted another but always said it was not a good idea, this period of brief mark 1 ownership i am sure is not going to help

i will still say they are far superior to mark 2's

you knew i'd post here...lol
you talked it down so much, its epic, love it. middle aged men looking at it on the motorway knowing what it is is awesome...lol, you can't sell,

if you have never owned a mark 1 valver / williams then you can't really say that...why only 1 week??? they are fine for a daily

Just the stigma attached to them for being unreliable, although saying that even the Mk2 seems to have a lot of reliability issues.

I'll share something I said in our part of the forum just half an hour ago, ironic you should start this thread really.

Honestly, show me a Williams 3 with the same mileage as my 182 and I'll have it in a shot!

I absolutely love them, and have done since Roamer took me out in his Williams nearly 6 years ago!

I owned a good one for two years!

Great car for the pounds paid, reliable! Loved it! BUT fact remains, times change and cars progress like everything else making the newer breeds better each time.

hmmm thats debatable.

mini.old or new??

clio....old or new??

escort.....old or new??

golf....old or new??

the list goes on.....and on...

newer is NOT always better.

Having owned old and new performance Clios it's not debateable for me as the 182 was streets ahead!

The only thing that it wasn't streets ahead in was value for money! The mk1 cost ne 3.5k to start with (plus 1.5 k for a 2.0 transplant) the 182 cost me double.

classic mini....the best motoring icon of our times. the new bmw shite....well..shite

clio....the 182s driving position is terrible, build quality even worse. 5k for a 2.0 ed valver, which would handle better, be quicker, and be more fun than the 182.

escort.....the mk1 and 2s awesome cars...the mk3/4/5 complete shite

golf, again, mk1 2s good cars. the 4/5/6 heavy, slow, build quality going down the pan

hmmmm see a pattern emerging??

LOL!

We have a cooper s in our house hold and I can safely say would rather be seen driving that than an old tin can!

By the time my 182 was sold it was on 30k and I can safely say it was as good as new! No rattles what so ever! The gearbox was strong as was the engine and it didn't leave me with rusty arches! Driving position I will give you!

Escort Cosworth! Say no more!

Newest Golfs have also but that brand back in business too even if we leave GTI's out of the equation and go for the R32's!

See the pattern!? New IS better after all!

Wouldn't this thread have been more fitting over on 'w**k chat' anyway!? Quite sure your all members over there! ;)

A Williams would be faster than my future 599 in the twisties if you asked 2live and co Royston. ;)

I read that it was quicker in the twisties than the Williams F1 car of the day, and that Frank wanted to use it at Monaco but the regulations didn't allow the use of gold wheels.

haha you are my hero, i agree with all of that i would have newer on every occasion, new minis are better than the old mr bean mobiles, escort 'cossies' are just an over rated chavs wet dream and old golfs are piss poor.

Biggest flaw in mk1's is the last owner, and the last and the last. It's nigh on impossible to find one that doesn't need bodywork, or has had it in the past - fact.

I'd have one over the mk2's anyday IF, big IF they'd have left the factory treated. I could buy a 6k immaculate willy 1 tomorrow, love it to death but still worry its gonna start rusting itself to bits.

You're doing my nut in mate.

I'm not sure if you are that blinkered or you're maybe just on the wind up.

If I compared a 599 to your williams you would say the 599 has too many driver aids and it takes away from the driving experience.

Wake up.

The 205 gti was a better drivers car than your heap.

That made me actually lol, which is rare. True though. I drove both quite a bit back in the day, and thought the 205 was more engaging. Williams felt too grown up in comparison.

IMO Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was a raw drivers car.

ah i see now. how the car drives has nothing to do with it, but how much of a c**k u look whilst driving the new gaylord/hairdressers mini is the be all and end all

typical poseur that hasnt got a clue imo. and the cs sheep jumping on the bandwagon to 'big up' their mates brap brap...........wtf?

have you ever driven an escort cosworth??? take forever to spool up, well the early ones anyway, and then they arent overly quick after that. nothing special.

the r32s....again the 4wd system robs soooooo much power that they arent all that either. have never driven 1, but have a few mates that are well into golfs, and they wouldnt touch one with a barge pole. which to me speaks volumes. like i said, havent driven 1 but have raced quite a few....as well as the v6 4motions. nothing to write home about tbh.

some people are happy to drive round in a new car, because of how they are percieved whilst driving it. not because of how the thing actually drives. seems you are not alone in this way of thinking. hence the sheep backing you up with OTT comments....but then...u expect clueless c***s to come back with comments like that and you lot never disappoint me in that respect.
