iOS "must have" apps

  Z4
Dragon Go! - If you're a pauper like me and only own an iPhone 4 and cba to 'upgrade' to a 4s but miss siri, this is it. Works well!

It's not on the UK iTunes though, so you'll have to get yourself a US account, easy enough.

Sat Nav 2 - I've been using this since before Christmas. I used it for a few trips (York - Bristol - London - Birmingham - Leeds) and it was great. It's as good as my old TomTom, and even has new roads that we only built a couple of months ago.

It has the option to input coordinates, which is great for when abroad, and there are no post codes (or they aren't accurate).

  • Nice interface
  • Free
  • Favourites
  • Plays iPod in the background (when wired to car)

It's free to use the online mode, which means it needs your internet connection to display the map, but I've downloaded the Europe map for £4.99. Means I can use it in Spain when I'm over there a couple of times this year.

I can't find this do you have a link ?

Sorry. They've recently renamed it on the app store.

AppShopper. I've been using this since new years eve, and it's brilliant. It shows all the recent price drops for all apps. I've downloaded some great apps through it, some for my work/job too.

Downloaded iTunes U, seems like its pretty good, especially for kids in school, I'd definitely have spent more time studying if I could do it on an iPad. Some interesting national geographic photography ones too.

Oh and it's all free.

VNC et al...

I'm building a HTPC tomorrow and I want to control it with my ipad via VNC (or similar) what are the best clients to use (dont mind paying)

The PC will be Win7 and mainly on Windows Media Centre, or maybe XBMC if that makes any difference.

can you get wake on lan via iPad VNC - it would be cool if I can make my HTPC sleep then wake it up with my iPad from my bed...

(man I am a lazy mofo...)

I have Mocha VNC, think it was £6.

I use it to wake my media PC on LAN. It's one of my most used apps.

The media PC streams all videos/music to my iPad/iPhone/ATV when at home. Perfect app.

Football Manager?

I've got it. Pretty good TBH.

It would be better if the saves were transferred between devices via iCloud though.

  A blue one.
I use remoter for remote access, I've tried a few different clients and remoter is the best imo.

Supports VNC (and VNC+Apple Remote Desktop extensions), VNC over ssh tunnel, RDP, RDP over ssh tunnel.

Also has a mac & windows app which you can install which allows "zero config" remote connections with sound.

Also includes ssh & telnet terminal.

It's cheap (some of the bits are in app purchases, but it's probably about 6 quid for a fully featured future proofed version).

I've been using it for over a year and the guy gives brilliant support, you have suggestions or problems he'll do his best to fix/include them in upcoming releases.

There's also a Mac version of it which I'm going to buy and install when I get around to it.

Yeah Football manager.

Looking at reviews on the App store some are pretty bad. For £6 though I can give it a try.

Saw the results of the Cards app from Apple today, Very nice (if a bit small) cards. Bit steep at £4. Takes a week to show up.

  2002 Clio 172 Cup
Barclays Pingit - I am with Barclays and have been waiting for an app I can use to check my balance and make payments etc. The app is awesome!

  Honda. Tesla Someday
CloudOn

Currently free on app store and is f*cking brilliant! Increases the value of having an iPad IMO! Lets you edit office docs actually using office! Very very very good and works really well!!
