insurance help please!!!

i called elephant earlier about a quote i got for a 182 online just to confirm it. anyway, i already have a current policy with elephant atm, the year runs out in october although i pay monthly.

anyway, i simply asked for a change of car, but keeping the existing policy. i currently pay £46 a month and the online quote indicated the monthly price for the 182 would be around £105. I presumed a swap over would be easy as i havent paid up front for the current policy, therefore i thought it would simply be a matter of changing the car and charging me £105 or thereabouts a month from now on, as opposed to £46.

but oh no, the guy was indian (i suspect that's where the call centre was as he couldnt understand me despite me explaining the situation 100 times) he said that i would have to pay £200 a month for the 182 if he changed it over, yet he couldnt understand why i would choose to end the current policy and open a new one for the 182 to save me half the price!!!

does this make sense? how can elephant charge me £200 a month to change the car over, yet if i start a fresh policy it only costs me £105 a month? think i should ring up again and try to speak to someone who understands me?!!! surely it cant be right!

Ring em back. The call centres for elephant are in wales i think, top guys there, very helpful. Just try again and get someone else who'll understand what you're on about.

i get my 1 yrs on 1st October. god knows why i cant just keep the policy but they charge me the same price!

exactly.. i think thats whats happend.

you dont have 1 year ncb becuase its not october yet..

have you put 1 year or 0 ncb on the online quote?

the guy just kept telling me it was £200 because "its a bigger car than you're 1.3" as if i didnt know that! that was besides the point, the point was i'd been quoted £1050 on a fresh policy, yet he wanted £200 a month to change the car. i said you'd have to be out of your mind to pay double yet he couldnt see where i was coming from, so aggrevating!

its cool. try direct line.. i just put in a "pretendish" quote as a 20y etc. came up with 107 / month.... so the guy was obviously a bit off the scale..

Never call elephant out of hours they are utterly sh*t !!!

Give them a call tomorrow during the day, you'll get someone who undetstands you & someone you can understand.

Elephant/ Admiral (same company) are a shower of shite to deal with, I paid my insurance up front last July and when I looked at changing my car around Christmas time, I was almost starting from afresh they wanted something ridiculous.... The threads here:

I got very annoyed with the whole thing so I ve decided to wait until July when the 1.2 16v policy runs out then consider my options then. I would love to change to a ph1 172 but i ve got too many other expensive hobbies draining me at the moment!

i rang quinn a month after my 1100quote on my golf which is around 10 a month and i wanted a quote for a pug306 which online was 650 worked out if changed it over i would of payed around 800 so yes it is better to cancel the policy and start again, unsless you are midway in the policy in which case you lose the 6 whatever months you have done aquireing your no claims and have to star agin, pointless really.

my dads with kwik fit, has been for yrs, he loves them.

i dunno what to do, i dont wanna lose my yrs no claims for the sake of 3 months, think if i do manage to find a decent 182 (if theres actually any around!!!) il just have to pay the ridiculous £200 for the next 3 months to get my yrs NCB then cancel!

I've found admiral to be quite good. Cheapest by far and have changed policies a few times, with multicar and up to my current 172.

Like they all say, ring again and speak to manager if not satisfied.

just tried elephant again, different guy. i ended up putting the phone down on him as i got to the car stage and i said 182 2 litre clio 100 times and he said "is it a 172 exclusive?" which made me think..oh hes getting there, but then he said "i have no 2 litre on the list, is it a dynamique 1.2, a campus?" i said NO ITS A 182 !! he then said bear with me, he came back about a minute later and said "is it a 2 door convertible"

i just had to put the phone down on him at that point. who the hell do elephant employ?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bad luck. Can you not change your policy on the internet as my other half did when she changed our cars. If not ring up and go through to customer services or complaints as apose to sales, this is what i did when i had problems with an indian gentleman who had couldnt understand my basic queries and questions.

Can you not "amend car" on-line or something? You can do it for mods so it's not entirely inconceivable to be able do it for the whole car too

Its not called a 182 its official name is Renaultsport. 182 wont be on their computer.

i told them also its a 2 litre, i told them everything it could possibly be but he still thought it was a 2 door convertible. absolutely pathetic. the only option was to put the phone down on him, considering id been on about 20 minutes!
