I can hear my engine! No, I really can!

  Clio 172 Ph2

For no apparent reason, Ive started to get engine noise coming through my speakers. Ive treble checked all the stereo wires and theyre perfect.... oh and of course theyre no different to when it was working just fine!

All Ive done is take my car into renault to be serviced.

Are there any additional wires in the engine bay that go between the chassis and the engine itself ? Maybe one isnt tight enough?

With the engine switched off, I can even hear it when I open the door, I get a kinda hummmmmmm through the speakers whilst the interior light is fading up / down - but not when its actually on.

The noise is driving me nuts - to the point where I just cant have the stereo on anymore. Its quite high pitch when going at speed and dogs come running! lol

Go to halfords or your nearest Car Audio shop and ask fo a "Suppressor" Less than a tenner, just an earth for your electrics.

check any earthing cables, might have knocked something loose, during the service, check batt connections too

supressors do not get rid of the problem, the only mask it

get the electrics checked out by a specialist

I agree about the supressor thing. I would prefer to fix the problem rather than just work-around it.

Im going to go jack the car up again in a bit and see if I can see any other earth straps anywhere. The one from the battery is fine. Anyone know where the others are?! There must be one where the electrics earth to - yeah? Or is that the second lead on the main battery one?

You mean like the whine you get when you see incar footage of the WRC etc..

Deffo sounds like there is an earth problem with your stereo.
